Do we need a safeguarding section?

I've noticed recently that thete seen to be a lot of posts about safeguarding. Hardly surprising on this site! Do we need a specific section for one so that they don't get lost at busy times?

Any thoughts @MNHQ?

Could they not go separately under relevant sections e.g. education, extracurricular, families or something?

A link to a MN page of how to decide if something is safeguarding and how report safeguarding concerns would also be useful (so people don't get lots of misinformation). It drives me mad how many times people turn up on posts where something needs raising, but it's not safeguarding saying 'call the LADO, Call Ofsted, frame it as a safeguarding concern and the head will have to ask, report the member of staff to the governors and ofsted etc (usually getting snippy at education staff who are trying to give useful advice on procedure). Or they turn up on safeguarding threads giving awful advice which could jeopardise any investigations if needed.

Maybe I'm being a little paranoid with my safeguarding hat on, but part of me would worry that a safeguarding area might also become a haven for trolls or unsavory types.

You might be right about trolls.

To me there are two reasons for it. One us so that the posts don't get lost and people (like You!) Who know what they are talking about can see them easily and give advice.

The other is that people may not be aware of issues they should know about. For example; there is currently a thread about Girl Guides. But it's in FWR so I am sure a lot of people won't see it (they may or may not agree it is a safeguarding concern). Because it is tied into women's rights it will be missed by those who don't go on there.

I'm sure thete will be other instances where people don't know simply because they haven't gone in to the sub section. Of course, this could mean they will miss it if it's in safeguarding but there has to be a better way.

mip
I can totally see the benefits of a safeguarding section. Now you've mentioned it, maybe with things in a safeguarding section might mean that the usual ' teachers are not God... call all the authorities, Call Ofsted, name and shame to your local paper' types might not see them so people get better advice overall.

I'm just a tad paranoid given how many people seem to use MN threads as their own wank fodder.

You might be better off re-posting this in Site Stuff www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff, where MNHQ might actually see it and respond.

MipMipMip · 02/08/2018 22:22

Evening, everyone. As requested by MipMipMip, we've now shifted the thread over to Site Stuff.

And we'll flag up your new topic suggestion here at MNHQ too, of course.

MipMipMip · 02/08/2018 23:57

Thank you Lou.
