I spent ages typing on my phone and there was some bloody good advice from many poster. Regardless of whether op is genuine or not or whatever, the content we have all written has value .

I wish they would just put a warning at the beginning of the thread and lock it so nothing new can be posted.

A zombie thread popped up today on WWYD about a woman being followed by a private investigator. Think it was originally posted 2012ish then someone from America has commented on it today.

welshmist · 03/06/2018 15:45

The thing with zombie threads is that if you google a problem, say a health one, mumsnet comes up near enough top of the first page, so you say to yourself you will find help on there and inadvertently raise an old thread. Unless you make a note of the date you will be adding to one.

Mirrorwriting · 03/06/2018 16:57

Why can’t they just lock it after 3 months after the last post and if op wants to add an update they can message the mods.

The annoying thing for me about deleted threads is that they still appear in the topics. Only when you go to click on it to read it, you get the deletion message. Why can they not just make them disappear completely?!

Jackyjill6 · 03/06/2018 17:44

Sometimes there is good advice that is still relevant though, that other people can learn from.

Aridane · 03/06/2018 17:56

I like zombie threads Blush

Sparklingbrook · 03/06/2018 18:10

I have seen the OP of a zombie thread reappear about 3 times I think. They are mainly reanimated by pervs/spammers and trolls.

itstimeforanamechange · 03/06/2018 18:39

I've not actually clicked on a thread that has been deleted for a while but there was a period when it was happening all the time and it was super annoying.

The troll hunting is super annoying too.

If you don't like a thread, ignore it and go and read another one.

Evening All,

Thanks for the suggestions - we do understand your frustrations about thread deletions and zombie threads so we'll pass your thoughts up to the big bosses.

For now, we're going to move this thread across to SiteStuff as we think it's best placed there.

As you were....

Becca19962014 · 03/06/2018 23:24

Hi Fliss, I've sent various emails about the site glitching and showing old threads which people haven't even posted on as trending on certain pages.

This happens every time

  • on a general search in the box on the top right
  • on the getting started page

Sometimes the site glitches randomly and does the same thing.

I'm sure if tech could fix the issue it would go a long way to stopping at least some of the zombie threads being resurrected.

Also, may I suggest in a general search somewhere in the results showing when the thread was last posted on like what happens with advanced? This would be of use to users as well.

I've been a tech on another site and I do understand there are a lot of things techs need to sort out, but I honestly think that these are things which would, in the long run, be of help with regard to zombie threads.

Obviously it won't help with idiots who resurrect such threads for a laugh or to be a pain, but some will be genuine mistakes or errors, at the very least the box needs to be fixed on the getting started page - that's quite a serious glitch as when people first register that's what they're likely to click on.

I'm aware I've sent a lot of emails to MNHQ about this and I've been told they've been forwarded to tech and apologies for repeating myself, yet again, but I do think this needs sorting.

@Dopplerineffect
That was deleted as well!? Crazy. Not worth posting much of substance if it's going to be zapped e.g. The woman with the 'dim' DH, she had lots of great advice that people had obviously spent time putting together.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2018 22:37

Threads usually get deleted if op thinks they have said too much and people recognise the situation

Or

Dm gets the story

Could op posts be deleted but the thread stay so Any advice stay so that people can still read /get help

Lock thread if need be
