Please could you help a confused new person by translating some of the abbreviations; DS? etc etc there are loads of them. And I havn't got any idea what almost all of them mean.

Hi. They are pretty standard chat room abbreviations, there used to be a list somewhere but I can’t find it. Basically the ‘D’ stands for ‘dear/darling’ (yes, it is twee and cheesy but I think it was adopted as standard format years ago and stuck).

So,
DS - Darling Son (numbers after denoting which child in the birth order, eg DS1 would be your firstborn son if you had more than one boy).
DD - Darling Daughter
DC - Darling child
DSS - Darling stepson
DSS - Darling stepdaughter
DH - Darling husband
DW - Wife
DM - mum
DMIL - mother in law
DSIL/DBIL/DFIL - sister/brother/father in law

You get the picture

STBEH - soon to be ex husband (for those going through divorces)

PG / DTD / POS - pregnant / doing the deed (sex) / pee on a stick (pregnancy test). For the conception crew.

MN is obviously Mumsnet.
MNHQ is the bosses (Mumsnet headquarters).

Sorry, the abb for Darling stepdaughter should be DSD, not DSS.

Ceinwen2 · 24/04/2018 22:02

Oh thanks! There are some others as well, but thanks. Some of them seem obvious once you know. But not before! :-(

Here's the list www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms for you.

As Spork said, the link to it isn't so obvious these days! If you click on the little circle, with the downward facing arrow, next to the word Talk at the top ^^ it brings down a small drop down menu of info pages.

PanPanPanPing · 26/04/2018 17:40

@Ceinwen2, did you manage to find the list of acronyms via the link I posted above?

TwitterQueen1 · 26/04/2018 17:50

A useful one not on the list is ODFOD
Oh Do Fuck Off Dear

not to be used to another poster as that would be abusive / trolling, which is not allowed, but in the context of a quoting a conversation for example, is perfectly acceptable. I could have said ODFOD to the silly woman who wanted me to wait for a green man to cross the road yesterday, but I'm too polite...

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 26/04/2018 17:53

FOTTFSOF[O]AWYGTFOSM - Fuck off to the far side of fuck [off] and when you get there fuck off some more

Panda81 · 26/04/2018 23:47

NSFW is not on the list, please can someone tell me what this means?

avocadosrus · 26/04/2018 23:57

Panda81 Not suitable for work
