great stuff Justine. Alice Miles has obviously never visited any sites where men frequent (like football or fishing sites with chat facilites) where the most intelligent topic of conversation is most likely to be based around trying to second guess who is going to be in the starting line up or comparing the size of their rods.

And as for there not being enough female news journalists, surely that's something for her employers - and besides, I'm sure she remembers what a busy news room is like. Perhaps women are just more sensible getting out of it and going into columns and the like?!

Great post LL.

So what do we think of his response then?

but, do we think maybe he's got a teeny point in that there is more we could all DO about the things we don't like. Or maybe that's just me, I talk about id cards etc here but don't DO much else about it and so for me, he's right, what's the point of that?

munz · 04/05/2007 12:46

fantasic post LL - is it just me who gets so fustrated with the way 'outsiders' see MN when looking in?

althou i'd love to post I don't think I have the eloquance (sp) or vocb to do MN justice.

cornflakegirl · 04/05/2007 13:18

www - i think he's got a point - but i also feel quite intimidated by the amount of campaigning he says he does!

in defence of mumsnet - i've written to my mp a handful of times - but the most recent one was because of a link to the breastfeeding manifesto site on here...

Oh lololol about Trugger's post- who are you? You deserve a medal. LL, yours was great too, and actually I am quite warming to Alisdair. There are a hell of a lot of rogue apostrophes on that page though, maybe I'll start campaigning about that.

Marina · 04/05/2007 19:20

Go, Trugger
(I am NaughtyMarietta by the way)

thedogsbollox · 04/05/2007 19:21

Oh what a naughty girl you are Marina

Marina · 04/05/2007 19:25

Alisdair has inspired me to send the e-mail of green biro and capital letters to my local councillors about traffic calming in our neighbourhood, so I should thank him really (not sure our councillors will...if Tigermoth is lurking, TM it is the tiny child Tory Goth!)

Marina · 04/05/2007 19:25

e-mail equivalent

CuriousSquid · 04/05/2007 19:29

nice one justine

You picked a good day to tell people to look at MN. somedays it would frighten an "outsider" LOL!

Nbg · 04/05/2007 19:31

Well done Justine!

MrsWho · 04/05/2007 19:53

Well done Justine!

Did anyone here write this?

'As far as I'm aware the "Mums" in the name "Mumsnet" refers to the group of mothers who founded the site. If you saw a site called Dogsnet presumably (most?) people would realise that it wasn't actually a small pack of Jack Russell terriers and the occasional collie posting?'

Brilliant article, Justine

Nightynight · 12/05/2007 11:54

Thanks Justine!

Am disappointed that Alice Miles can post something so patently untrue - can't she do a bit of research before shooting her mouth off?

or maybe she doesnt understand the finer points of some of our philosophical discussions?
