Fuck off

user1495832265 · 03/12/2017 13:05

Is it, or is it not, breaking TGs to tell another poster to fuck off?

Clarification needed please HQ as it seems to depend on who says it and to whom.

OP posts:
SandyDenny · 04/12/2017 09:22

I didn't know it was deletable but like anything MNHQ only know about the posts that are reported to them

user1495832265 · 04/12/2017 09:28

It was definitely reported.

Will check thread later today and if no response from HQ I'll contact via email so I can give them specific details.

Mildly having a pop. Ok. Maybe you could stop that then?

Confused
Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2017 09:36

All I am saying LesDennishair is that if when mildly having a pop is reported it gets deleted Myrtle could bear that in mind next time. Smile

User843022 · 04/12/2017 09:41

'Ok. Maybe you could stop that then?'

I'll try sparkling, it greatly depends on what is being discussed though.

Back to the op, I think mods do vary greatly on what they judge constitutes a p.a. What one will accept, another won't. I've had much worse said to me which has been left to stand, still its not all black and white so I think we have to just shrug off any inconsistencies.

Rooooooood · 04/12/2017 09:46

I report personal attacks whenever I see them. ODFOD is obviously a personal attack 🤦🏻‍♀️ How could it not be! As is calling someone stupid or calling them a snowflake or whatever🙄

You can insult what someone did, does or thinks but you can't insult them directly. (Although the rules aren't enforced super consistently)

I glad Mumsnet has a no personal attack rule but I wish they would delete posts that may not fall into the personal attack category but are nasty or unkind. There are some obnoxious posters on Mumsnet who seem to get. Kick out of trying to upset other posters.

Rooooooood · 04/12/2017 09:50

You can also say I can't respond, it would be against the talk guidelines. My second word was going to be "off"

I bet you can't. I've seen this comment used. If it's stayed up I bet it's just because no one has reported it.

SheGotOffThePlane · 04/12/2017 09:55

I'm sure I was locked out my account once for telling an OP to fuck off and get grip. Apparently against the ethos of the site Grin

They do if they are reported for being 'Not in the spirit of MN' or simply for 'bitchplopping'

ReanimatedSGB · 04/12/2017 10:05

Bit feeble to run crying to teacher because someone tells you to fuck off, though. Especially if you were being an absolute knob in the first place.

Sorry my post was unclear. I know delete some nasty unkind posts they just don't delete all of them.

MrsLupo · 04/12/2017 10:15

It's very inconsistent. I was deleted once for pointing out that another poster was on the wind-up. I just wanted other posters to pause before getting sucked in. It was a very mild comment but they evidently reported it and MNHQ agreed apparently.

I hardly ever report anything as a personal attack except on a thread where a mob mentality has developed and a minority of dissenting voices are getting laid into with real spite. In that situation, MNHQ bizarrely often seem to leave the offending posts in place, which suggests to me that someone complaining about an attack on themselves is taken more seriously than the opinion of a bystander.

To me that's ridiculous - something is either spiteful or it's not. Even if the target of the spite has already left the thread because they're being picked on, deletion would still send a useful message about what's acceptable to everyone else.

paxillin · 04/12/2017 10:42

That would have been a troll-hunting deletion, @MrsLupo.

Reported- deleted if offensive or troll hunting. Not reported- not deleted.

MrsLupo · 04/12/2017 10:49

Oh yeah, I guess it would. I didn't have much respect for the running to teacher element, I must say. If you're going to be a GF, at least own it. In that sense, I think reports by someone other than the target should be taken more seriously, not less.

paxillin · 04/12/2017 11:14

I have very rarely reported something aimed at me. Not even sure if I ever have.

exWifebeginsat40 · 04/12/2017 11:51

i was banned once for literally copy and pasting something that a (bonkers) previous poster had said.

they weren’t deleted or banned. it is mystery.

AmyGMumsnet · 05/12/2017 10:20

Hello! Thanks for raising this, and sorry for the delayed reply.

With 'fuck off', if a post is reported to us then it's more likely than not that we'd delete that, although we do always take context into account.

If you ever think we've missed something then do hit the report button and we'll always take a look for you. Thanks!

user1495832265 · 05/12/2017 11:11

Thank you for your reply AmyG.
I'll contact HQ off the boards for a bit more information on this specific one.
