Hello there!

We would like to cordially invite you all to join us this coming Sunday, June 18, for a Great Get Together - in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, and in support of her family's organisation, More In Common, which aims to get us all to celebrate the things that unite us.

So whether you're reasonable or unreasonable, whether you have or have not Googled penguin bollards, and whether or not you think the OP should have cashed the cheque, we'd love to see you all here on Sunday around midday.

There will be PRIZES, chatting and amusing gifs (courtesy of AliceDMumsnet's 'solid gold gifs' folder). Please bring your best children's jokes, pictures of any kittens who have recently adopted you, and heartwarming stories of love and friendship across the divide (Netmums).

BYO booze. Folk dancing will not be tolerated in the shallow end.

(If you'd rather go to an event near you and meet other people face-to-face, check out the Great Get Together's listings of thousands of events across the UK here.)

Love
MNHQ

@DawnMumsnet

Room for one more?

My day in five words...

Trolls
Troublemakers
Sockpuppets
Goadyfeckers
PBPs

but the good news is, I'm clocking off now! Grin

Any Pimm's left, Rowan? Don't bother with the lemonade and ice and fruit and all that nonsense, just on its own is fine, ta.

Treble measure of neat Pimms for DawnMumsnet Shock

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:31

Three things about the UK:

landscape
family
terrible public transport Grin

On a very hot day last summer I was on a hugely overcrowded commuter train that came to a complete stop outside Vauxhall and just sat there for 20 minutes. Drops of other people's sweat were landing on my arms, aaargh

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:42

@OhYouBadBadKitten

ooooh yes to the public transport. Yesterday was hideous!

Poor Dawn Gin

Ah, cheers, BadBadKitten - it was actually quite a calm shift, all told. Have had worse ones!

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:46

@AutumnalLeaves38

Are all the MNHQers limbering up for your Clog Morris formation display?

We're agog with anticipation.

Of course, Autumnal - we're just sewing the jingly bells on our costumes, will be ready to start any minute...

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 13:55

Photo of us having a nice sit-down during the clog-dancing rehearsal

MrsH I can't believe nobody gave you a seat! What arses. Someone nearly fainted on my train a couple of weeks ago and about 12 nice young men leapt up and practically had a fight about where she should sit

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:10

These young Spanish men are very forward

Took us ages to get the stick-work right, Tressilians. Let's just say IonaMumsnet took the opportunity to work off some frustrations

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:20

That human fruit machine is genuine genius

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:29

HANG ON I've just realised yesitsmeidontcare claims to be walking her cat and I think I need to know more

fruitbats yes, my cat is 22 - well we think she is, she was a rescue so it's all a bit of an estimate. I've definitely had her for 20 years though. DS1 says the oldest cat on record was 40-something, although frankly DS1 talks a lot of nonsense sometimes

here she is complaining about the heat while wearing a fur coat

JustineMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:30

Here's my very dim dog, Kasper, looking for his stick (which went on the fire yesterday).

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:30

@paxillin

Did we have throw-a-sponge yet? Do we use teacher or MNHQ "volunteers"?

I'm... allergic... to water?

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:36

@paxillin

We'll use Pimms for sponge soaking.

Is anyone else dreaming about trifle now? Smile

RebeccaMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:36

@paxillin

We'll use Pimms for sponge soaking.

I'll take one for the team Grin

WINNERS' CORNER

For her 'three things about the UK' entry: MrsHathaway who listed 'Green spaces
Orderly queues
Self-deprecation'

Which was in itself nice and orderly.

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:43

NEW COMPETITION! One for those with craft-orientated children (nieces/nephews/DGCs/charges etc): for a craft kit and a colour-in tablecloth...

What’s your favourite place in the UK, or your favourite journey within the UK?

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 14:50

Puzzled that joke is probably too good

There are probably a lot of Father's Day roasts going uneaten south of the Highlands today

DawnMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:01

Speaking of trains (well, two of you were)... time for a train joke.

A friend of mine always wanted to be run over by a steam train. When it happened, he was chuffed to bits Grin

CarolineMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:05

Dawn's been on the vintage Croatian liqueur I see. I'm enjoying mine drizzled atop a 99. Cheers!

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:09

Oh lawks teatowel that's a bad combination (poorly baby and hangover, I mean). Better not offer you any Pimms?

autumnal we'll be starting the disco at around 4pm and it will go on until the last MNer staggers out of the tent, so do feel free to reel back in later

Welcome froome and Geeky!

My favourite place in the UK: Dungeness - so weird but so beautiful. But lots of beaches in Pembrokeshire are not far behind. Very fond of Cotswolds villages (well you've got to really haven't you) and the Chilterns too.

Best place in the UK that i've been to at least...
Lulworth cove - on a hot day, it looks like Greece

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:21

Shock at the house brick

RebeccaMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:22

@paxillin

It does, puzzled! Never noticed it, now can't unsee it. The taxidermists didn't know walrusses are supposed to be wrinkly, so they overstuffed it until smooth Grin.

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:35

Squeeeeeeee kitten Eliza! How old is s/he?

RowanMumsnet · 18/06/2017 15:50
