Childcare forum

The new division of topics is rubbish. The whole value of a "home childcare" board was so that people could ask for advice on different options. Where do I post if I'm not sure if I need a childminder, au pair or nanny? Please change it back!

Thanks for flagging this up to us, OP. Unfortunately, all the people who deal with this sort of thing are not around until tomorrow but we'll certainly pass on your thoughts. Thanks.

wickerlampshade · 09/04/2017 17:08

Thank you. I think this is definitely a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

They've been away for some time..........

any answer to this?

I prefer it how it is to put another opinion forward.

wickerlampshade · 19/04/2017 21:04

That's interesting

which forum would you post on if you had a childcare problem and you wanted to discuss whether a nanny/aupair/childminder was the best solution? there used to be lots of posts like that and I genuinely don't know where I would put it now.

Most people know what type of childcare they are looking for or have an existing provider they would like to ask a question about.

It's like saying we shouldn't have 'the litter tray' or 'the doghouse' because people won't have anywhere to ask what type of pet they should get.

Snap8TheCat · 19/04/2017 21:13

Plus that question is only asked once and then people rarely need to come back and have the same quandary. The providers (like myself) who use it all the time generally only scan for their area of expertise amongst the rest.

wickerlampshade · 19/04/2017 21:50

It's asked a lot in my opinion - but we can agree to disagree!

Grin indeed. Maybe another sub forum? 'Help me choose'

Thereturningwonderer · 19/04/2017 22:14

As you seem to be splitting sections, where donwe go to discuss pre-schools?!

Snap8TheCat · 19/04/2017 22:29

here for preschools

HSMMaCM · 20/04/2017 08:00

I found it a bit weird when the home childcare section split up. Often people would ask for one type and then realised another.

I have each in my favourites list now and visit them all, so I think I've recovered from my initial shock Grin

insancerre · 20/04/2017 09:10

I think it is useful to have separate sections in the childcare section, I do also think it needs a childcare topic too. Just like in education
I also have never know understood the need for nurseries to be in childcare and preschool to be in education. They are all delivering the EYFS

HSMMaCM · 20/04/2017 09:20

I raised that before insancerre. Childminders follow eyfs too. I think the theory raised was that some Pre schools only provide the free early years education, whereas nurseries and childminders normally do other hours too. It would make sense for the pre schools to be with nurseries and childminders etc, because they're all to do with pre schoolers.

Snap8TheCat · 20/04/2017 10:02

Yes childminders follow the EYFS too....

wickerlampshade · 26/04/2017 20:13

Nothing from MN on this? "The people who deal with this sort of thing" are having a long holiday......

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your feedback on this one. We've now started a Childcare options topic here. We hope this helps. Flowers

Snap8TheCat · 27/04/2017 13:37

Great compromise 👍

Have to say I predict that the childcare options forum will go unused, as the people who would usefully answer the questions won't frequent it. The whole point of the single forum is that everyone was on there - parents, nannies, childminders etc. Still, it's MN's call. I think you've made a very useful area of the site significantly less useful and am glad I'm past the point of needing advice in this area.
