Mumsnet, do you want pushchair/carseat/book recommendations from oldie mumsnetters who have contributed before?

Just wondering.

I've been filling out some forms for the comps, with a sinking but vague/half-remembered sense I've recommended 1 or 2 of these items 9 mos ago, or a year ago, or even 2 or 3 years ago. Are my opinions still welcome?

Just bumping this up in case the mumsnet team wasn't awake & checking the sight at 2.04am.

I was thinking that too, when I entered last week. Also I find that some of my stuff has already been superseded so there seems little point doing a review.

expatkat · 10/06/2004 11:48

Right, Lizs, that too. Does a Britax rock-a-tot carseat I bought in '99 qualify for a review? I've always assumed not. . .but who knows?

All reviews of products old or new are welcome at any time - it's up to us to weed out the ones that are no longer relevant so please feel free to review away! As for multiple reviews - if you definitely remember sending one in the last 9 months it's probably not worth sending the same one again. But if it's less recent than that then do. If in doubt send it anyway - if you have the same thoughts/scores it won't matter or affect the averages over much.

Hope that makes sense to all.

Just for the record.... I've done tons of buggy and carseat reviews to enter the comps. Mn...I promise they're real. i really do have (or have had) tons of the things!!!!!

Justine (mumsnet) · 11/06/2004 10:57

Hi there,
Another thought re the reviews is that the more specific detail you can provide the better. For example if you can take into account the way the reviews are structured eg for pushchairs we rate portability, looks, manoeuvrability, comfort, folding mechanism, durability, shopping basket, safety value for money. If you can try and address some or most of these things rather than send a brief: good all round pushchair, my son was very happy in it - type of thing, that would be very helpful.
Thanks very much,

How would I get involved in doing the reviews please?? And entering comps?

Ixel · 11/06/2004 11:46

What length of review do you want? I've always kept mine short for fear of droning on and looking like a muppet. But I could've written about 1000 words if you wanted.

Rachel (mumsnet) · 11/06/2004 11:53

To send in a review go to send a review . It should be self explanatory from here. Competitions are always flagged on the home page, but we are in the process of adding a comps link to the main menu on the home page. Hope this helps,

Rachel, Justine and Carrie

Ta very much

Hi Ixel,

As Justine said, to be honest, the more detail you can give us the better. Specifics are particularly useful, for example if you if the breaks are useless on a buggy but the shopping basket particularly useful then let us know. Don't worry about droning on and certainly don't worry about looking like a muppet(!) - it's up to us to edit the reviews, but, be assured, the more detail we have to edit, the better.

i have 1 buggy, 1 pram, 3 car seats...i have started entering a few of the comps and feel I'm just writing the same things over and over again each week! does it matter?...I am sending the reviews mainly as a means of entering the competitions

Rachel (mumsnet) · 11/06/2004 13:57

Avoid sending in reviews of the same thing unless you've got something new to say about it - eg you've been using a buggy for a while and come to realise it doesn't wear well. We aim to change the entry requirements for each competition so that you should be able to enter without having to repeatedly send in the same review. There's also usually an alternative to sending in a review for example, recommend a friend or send in a tip.

Another tip for when sending in reviews -sorry, should have said this earlier - is to maybe put the points down in bullet points eg breaks hard to put on, wheels are squeaky, hood broke after one month - but as a general rule send in about 50 words. This helps to avoid waffling and makes life easier for us when editting. Keep em coming in!
