Pictures of children should be banned

Over the years there have been numerous trolls who have lifted pictures from the Internet to back up their stories. Premature babies/sick children etc. These pictures have almost certainly been lifted from other blogs or websites.

Conversely other posters may post pictures of their children here which would be equally easy to lift by someone wanting to troll elsewhere.

And furthermore, we have in the past had at least one user here who turned out to be a suspected paedophile selling pictures to paedophile rings for doctoring for nefarious purposes.

Banning all pictures of children would put a stop to any of that in the name of MN.

How would it work though?

It's just not necessary.

I hardly ever see pictures of children on here so I don't really think it's a massive issue that needs addressing. I also think people know the risks involved in posting pictures of their children on any Internet forum/ social media site and, as adults, should be able to make that choice themselves.

As sad to say that photos of children shouldn't be allowed on Mumsnet, I am agreeing with this one, especially in light of recent events. You just can't trust anyone these days to be showing pictures of their own children or that someone won't steal photos of your own kids. Weird times.

But what about people sharing photos of children who aren't their own in order to troll, Pam?

I obviously don't agree with that but I just don't really ever see pictures of kids on here so is it that big an issue? They'll just troll elsewhere and if they're discovered trolling here they'll get banned and posts will be removed. The times I have seen pictures have been on really innocuous threads/ comments and I think it's a shame to stop someone being able to say- 'look at this crazy outfit my kid put together this morning' or, recently a mother posted about a disastrous haircut for her daughter and wanted advice/ reassurance. No one came to harm. Why stop people being able to do that for the almost never occurrences of pictures used for trolling?

But what about the 'ds has a weird rash- is it A&E or anti histamines we need?' posts?
In ye olden days, about a third of posters had numerous pics of their DCs on their profile, but that seems to have been abandoned these days, probably for the best.
But no pics of children at all?

I know that thread went tits-up, but from the second pic on, it was fairly obvious to call it.

If they are going to ban pictures if kids, the only way that can be policed is to revoke the picture uploading feature...

Tin Eye reverse image search will tell you if a photo is stolen from the web. You cant ban everything just because of the minority.

I wouldnt want to stop worried parents posting photos of a rash or similar.

I have posted the odd picture of my children but mainly because they have a rash or something I needed to query

I did crop it though so the actual child was hidden and you only saw the mark

Our postnatal thread sometimes features pictures of our children. It's nice, we all sort-of "know" each other and our children, in a virtual sense.

I agree in theory but what if someone wants to post a pic of DSes rash or DDs foot sore? Hardly the kind of thing paedophiles would be interested in but might be helpful for said parent.

What about if you want to post a pic of the child you need to have a piece of paper with your user name handwritten on it

I agree, i dont think particularly pictures that show recognizable children's faces are a good idea

you could use any photo to troll if you really wanted. I could find a photo of any person and say it was me/my friend/whoever
