Is there a way of knowing when someone has quoted/ replied to you?

I'm quite new, but I'm pretty sure there's not. Is there any reason for this?

It's a bit frustrating if you've commented on a post, come back to find there's been 200 posts after yours and you have no way of knowing if anyone's replied to you without looking through them all.

Well there is a techy way involving f5 which I don't understand so I rely on boring olde eyes. #technodipstick

Some posters quote what you said or quote and bold your name.

But to be honest reading the whole thread is always recommended if you are commenting on it.

If it is your own thread, reading the whole thing is a must. If it is someone else's, reading it would still be best, but as Sparklingbrook says, people often bold your name so you find it just skimming the replies.

Show all posts on one page and then use the search function on your browser for all or part of your name, or a keyword out out of your post, only takes a few seconds.

But yes, if you are going to post again you really needto read the whole thread first.

Not reading the thread is like having a conversation with a group of people where you say what you want to say, put your fingers in your ears when they are talking, and then say your piece again. It's bad etiquette, and a bit arrogant I feel. People have taken time to make their comments, why is your time more valuable and can't be spared to read them?

If the thread is too long, don't post. In customise you can highlight OP's posts btw, which does make it easier to read.
