Hello MNHQ as you will have seen from the post asking over 50's to come and say hello there is a lot of interest in an over 50's _chat sub folder. Could this be added pretty please?

I don't think there's any need for a forum section for specific ages, really.

A lot of us on Mumsnet aren't mums. You don't need to be a gran to join Gransnet, just interested in what they are talking about.

It seems rather separatist and unwelcoming to segregate chat.

I turned 50 last year, and my usage of MN hasn't changed, nor have the things I want/need from the site.

My DDs regularly lurk on here, and DD2 has been known to join in occasionally. She particularly enjoyed posting on a Black Friday thread a few years back. They are 18 and 22, not parents, not even thinking about being parents. DH and the DDs regularly request that I start a thread for them.

Gransnet and Dadsnet are as separatist as MN should go.

Agree with the others. Age zones are naff. Mix in, join gransnet or fuck off and make your own forum. Mumsnet is about inclusion not segregation.

Op I'm in your target age group and have no desire for a separate part of mn based in age. I find everything I need elsewhere and I quite like "mixing" with young and old alike. It's refreshing and inclusive.

I'm 52 and certainly don't want a specific area to post in. Age is just a number; I feel the same as I did at 36.

I think one of the nicest things about MN is the way all ages mix up and talk to each other.

An occasional thread about age specific problems is fine but no need for a separate board.

I'm 70 and have no problem with using the main forums - never even looked at gransnet as I'm not a gran.

While we are talking about different folders, I've never understood why there's a Scotsnet folder but not a Welshnet or NInet or Englishnet. Why is that MNHQ?

Because people asked for Scotsnet. If there is enough interest, MNHQ will generally add anything. There is no great conspiracy!

I'm over 60 the right demographic but, although the current thread is lovely, I wouldn't want to be sequestered in an over 50s area.

Scotsnet was set up because our legal and educational systems are different from those in England and Wales, so if a Scot posted that they were off on holiday in July, for example, s/he wouldn't get lots of comments about taking dc out of school. Or if a Scot* posted asking about a house purchase and an offer accepted s/he wouldn't get lots of posts about how the offer isn't fixed till exchange and completion.

I guess much of this would apply to NIrish too, but they haven't asked.

*A Scot = in this case, someone living in Scotland, regardless of origin or birthplace.

I know neither of these are quite right, but there is a Menopause section and a Gransnet section on mumsnet. I would imagine, similar to the Dadsnet section on MN is used by male posters about all kinds of topics, not just parenting issues dads face, the Gransnet section isn't necessarily for grandparenting related issues but just anything which pertains to posters in an older age bracket.

I'm over 50 - and had posted on the over 50s thread.

But I see no reason to have a 50+ (or 60+ ..... or whatever) sub-topic.

I'm quite happy as I am.
