Locking old threads

Dear MNHQ - I know this discussion has been had before but is it worth considering locking threads after a certain period of time, say a year or so, so that they don't suddenly appear in Active and prompt a bunch of new posters to reply to an OP that is several years old?

There's one on defibrillators that is 3.5 years old, that has just been reanimated by someone who works with defibrillators - I suspect a bot has trawled websites looking for "active" threads, which this one would appear to be as it's not locked out, and the poster has therefore posted on it.

What do you think about locking out zombie threads?

Thing is though, sometimes zombie isn't bad. Yesterday I had a read through of a 'what silly things do you boycott?' thread which might even be in classics, can't remember. Although I'd contributed originally I thought of something else to say. Wouldn't make sense to start another thread, and it was a funny read and not time limited so no harm in it being bumped again. I didn't post but couldn't see any reason not to IYSWIM.

I wouldn't read pages and pages of a years old thread or add anything. I tend to think most bumping is unnecessary after years.

Mind you I am not a fan of Classics at all. Sad I don't like a dead thread. Grin
