Hi HQ, have you considered changing the colours on the top of the site? I know it's a bit band-wagon-y, but I think it would be appropriate in the current circumstances.

If we are allowed a vote. I'd vote no for that idea.

NickNacks · 15/11/2015 12:14

I'd vote yes.

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2015 12:15

I think it would have been good but yesterday morning.

Synyster · 15/11/2015 12:18

good idea, but then it will have to be done for every tragic thing

Mintyy · 15/11/2015 12:20

I would vote no too. It somehow seems disrespectful to all the non-French people who have died in terrorist attacks since Mumsnet started. Bandwagony is exactly the word.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/11/2015 13:08

I'd vote yes if it can coincide with the 3rd National Day of Mourning in France, which is tomorrow. Many countries are showing solidarity like this.

We don't have to do it for everything, but would be good for this - you don't attend every funeral on town, but you do if your friendly next door neighbour suffers a tragedy.

Thimgs don't have to be equal all the time, because in rl they're not.

Fabritius · 15/11/2015 13:11

I vote Non too. It's just a bit arbitrary.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2015 13:12

I disagree too - a peace dove or something would be more appropriate unless we only rememeber westerners who die in terrorist attacks?

AuntieStella · 15/11/2015 13:13

I tend to agree with mintyy.

But if you do decide to do this, I think it does need to be during the French official mourning.

And, whilst you sort this specific one out in MNHQ, could you also have a think about what you'll have ready should UK ever have national mourning?

AnnaMarlowe · 15/11/2015 13:17

What happened in Paris is horrific.

But we didn't put up a Russian flag after the recent airplane disaster or a Lebannese flag after the Beirut bombings the other day.

My vote is no.

bloodyteenagers · 15/11/2015 13:42

It was horrific what happened. But I would also vote no.
But what about other countries?
Russia. Lebanon. berundi . Afghanistan. Syria. To name a few countries where there has been horrific violence recently.

To change the colours would mean it would be a daily occurrence. Sometime several times a day.

And those that have jumped on the fb bandwagon. Your settings have been changed. Your profiles are now public.

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 15/11/2015 13:51

I would vote Oui

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2015 17:37

And those that have jumped on the fb bandwagon. Your settings have been changed. Your profiles are now public.

Really?! That's a bit sneaky... I guess they would argue that it's not showing support if people can't see it...

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 15/11/2015 17:47

I don't think it matters what we would or wouldn't vote, it's not our website, let MNHQ decide. if you don't like their stance you are welcome to leave.

I imagine they are more concerned about what their advertisers think than what we think.

And it's not true that our profiles become public by sharing the tricolore. I've just checked on several people I know who are not friends and do not have public profiles and I can see exactly the same as I always could.

bloodyteenagers · 15/11/2015 18:22

Maybe because they are aware of the privacy change and have already changed their profiles.
seems to be hit and miss. I have checked an account that on Friday was private and it is now public after the change. Some fb friends have also noticed theirs has changed.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 15/11/2015 18:24

but I've checked my own and it's no different and I haven't changed a thing. Where did you get this information from?

DonkeyOaty · 15/11/2015 18:28

It's a Non from moi

TheHumanSatsuma · 15/11/2015 18:31

I vote no, the ostentatious outpouring of grief is getting on my nerves. Itis "being seen to be caring."

and before you say I don't care, my family was caught up in the events of Friday

SauvignonBlanche · 15/11/2015 18:31

It's a 'no thanks' from me.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 15/11/2015 18:33

Bloody That's not true at all. Privacy settings haven't changed, just profile pictures - and profile pictures are always public.

Tiggeryoubastard · 15/11/2015 18:36

No from me. Otherwise sadly, in this world, there would be a change every day. Unless you decide some people are more worthy to be mourned than others. Some atrocities are worse than others. I think that's going down the wrong path.

bloodyteenagers · 15/11/2015 18:58

Someone mentioned it on fb, so I checked a few that I know are private. Including the work one. the other person with log in details had changed the tricolour. There's only 2 of us with access. That person had not changed the privacy. Neither had I. Yet as a random person I could view everything. I couldn't before the change.
That's why I said its hit and miss.. To be sure check.

In the past when Fb have done updates, some users have had privacy settings changed as a result. So this would not be the first time.
