What is Mumsnet's policy on which companies are permitted to have sponsored threads on here, please? A few of us have commented on the Unilever thread with regard to the irony of that particular company asking for our environmentally-friendly tips given its environmental contamination (and poor subsequent sense of corporate responsibility) in south India.

I agree with Jeffrey

Ditto this.

Agreed.

Hi everyone - thanks for asking about this. Sponsored threads fall under our advertising policy (see here) and therefore we accept sponsored threads from a wide range of companies (and don't work with some companies as well).

What does it take, MNHQ, for you to decide not to work with companies?

Please check the Unilever thread for at least two (there are more) reasons to ditch this firm.

Otherwise you risk being tarred with the same brush!

Unilever is a controversial company. I have seen several Mumsnetters on various threads say that they boycott it.

The sponsored thread smacks of manipulation, of Unilever trying to re-brand itself as an environmentally-caring company, when all evidence suggests that it is the very opposite. If Unilever truly cared about the environment, it would be cleaning up its shit in poor countries rather than limiting itself to dealing only with its perception problem. Obviously, it only cares about the latter.

I don't think it's right for Mumsnetters to be used as part of this cynical process.

What they said. Not impressed.

Unilever do provide quite a bit of information on the situation in India on their website:
