MNHQ, I would be interested to hear your views on the level of vitriol & personal abuse that has been posted today (08/05/2015)

I am amazed that no one from HQ has intervened on any of the (very many) political threads that have descended into name calling & personal abuse.

Selfishcuntydupe has summed up everything I want to say with this post:

"Yes - the hatred, the bile, the vitriol at people who simply put a cross in a different box. And the baby killing nonsensical hyperbole posted across this site. It's hysterical. Utterly, hysterical.

And no,the Tories here can never win because whatever they post, no matter how sane and objective , it will be used against them to accuse them of being a smug rich, bastard or as evidence that they are heartless.

No one predicted the election outcome because good, decent people stayed silent and quietly voted to avoid the bile , the bullying and the abuse they were seeing heaped upon those who did speak up.

MN admin - I would advise you to look very very closely at what some of your members are saying and how they are behaving or it may bite you on the arse too. This is an amazing website but some of the posts today are shameful."

I know that this site is moderated with a very light hand, but I think you have failed by not intervening today.

Not even an from you.

A poster at start of this thread is acting all innocently wounded because she was told to FO.

Conveniently omitting the fact the poster in question had posted that she had had panic attacks all day and been crying because she was worried about her children's future, while the poster told to FO and another poster still gloated and congratulated each other on the Tory win and utterly belittled her concerns.similar picture all over the place.

A lack of humanity . Far worse than upset people saying "fuck off". And am off to report a particular goady fucker who is on every thread being as goady as can be.

It's hard not to be frustrated when you post that you and your disabled child have actually suffered hardship under cuts or that schemes to support the disabled are under threat, and people don't listen but indeed are goady or say how much they want to support disabled people so they voted Tory. Hmm

Bottom line. .if you go around gloating or goading then people might get upset and even might get angry.

Have gone back and read..the poster complaining of being told to FO actually said "man up everybody" to genuinely scared posters and said "oh dear I'm not popular tonight Grin". anyway have reported the goading. It just sums up why the "vitriol" is not just one sided and heaped on poor innocent posters.

Yes, I noticed that. She did an awful lot more than say 'goodnight'. Her posts were smug and goady - to posters who genuinely fear for the future, who are struggling now, have disabled dc. I'm fortunate enough to not have to worry about money (touch wood) under any govt - but what she posted pissed me right off. I had to walk away from all the threads yesterday, such was the smugfest of the tory voters on here.

A couple of things those posters should remember:

"There, but for the grace of god, go I" and "nobody likes a gloater".

It all reminds me a bit of the UKIP response to perceived insult. Publicly heap abuse on vulnerable immigrants, gay people, women and ethnic minorities from your privileged position, yet when the tables are turned and you receive criticism or are the butt of satire, cry "Unfair!".

If you think it's bad being tory on here, try being Scottish?

If any other group were stereotyped, attacked and lumped together as one group there would be cries of racism everywhere

Morning all,

We seem to be posting similar messages on a fair few threads this morning. As you can imagine, we've had our hands pretty full responding to all the reports that have been generated by election-related threads.

We've been busy zapping posts and suspending anyone who we feel has crossed the line - we've banned a number of posters too. Here's a link to our Talk Guidelines if anyone needs a reminder. We've been sending out a lot of mails reminding folk that 'no deliberately inflammatory behaviour' is one of our (very few) rules - as well the more obvious 'no personal attacks'.

We do respond to every single report we receive - though at times like this it might take a little longer than usual - and we do rely on your letting us know if someone's being out of order as we really can't be on all threads at all times.

So please do continue to report, and we'll respond as quickly as we can.

Many thanks Flowers

I agree with every word of the OP.

The response to this election (from start to finish) has really opened my eyes to a lot of posters.

Being scared, upset, angry with other people for voting differently to you, is absolutely no excuse for some of the bile and vitriol being spouted across the boards at other people.

We're all adults here. If people find they can't post without being nasty to others, they need to log off and come back when they can post in a civil way.

And that goes for everyone, no matter what party they chose to vote for.

I know MNHQ have tons of posts to go through, but hopefully they'll spot and suspend the goady fuckers too.

Christina totally agree. And whilst I'm here, thanks to MNHQ for acting quickly to remove one particularly offensive goady/trolling anti-Scottish post yesterday Flowers

Yes I have seen people post about how they are already struggling with disabled children because of cuts, only to have posters reply that that is no one elses problem but theirs, and why should the state help.

Quite.
If they're not actually denying our real life experience they are telling us that we are failing in some way by not finding a solution ourselves.
Quite how that is in the spirit of the site and supporting other parents I do not know.

This political thread is how it should be - lots of debate but I haven't seen any goady or attacking posts:

Always nice to find someone telling tales on you on another thread. And naming you. Hmm

I posted that i was scared, that i was having a panic attack, that because of my mh as well as my physical problems, i am worried for my children that something like fucking up my esa will tip me over the edge. And the person posted a grinning face. So yes, i did swear at them. Not that you can see it now, its been deleted.

Oh, and i wasnt drunk.

I think there have been a huge amount of mean-spirited and hateful threads lately, either belittling other people's beliefs, political views or the size of benefit claimant's families. It's been pretty harrowing to read some people's views, and has made me wonder why I come here. I have read some really funny threads on here in the past and had some amazing support and kindness from posters, but the general tone of threads in the last few days has made me wonder whether to leave for a while.

Apparently all our talk of the reality of the cuts was hyperbole and exaggeration.

It's hard not to call a cunt a cunt when they're posting goady smilies and telling you that you're clearly lying about your family's reality. Still, I.guess its easy to gloat and smugly grin when your family are safe and you're not fearing for their mental health, physical health and possibly their lives.

I think if posters are really feeling a little sore about being called names, they should ask themselves what they might have said or done to provoke that.

I have never in all my time on MN hidden as many threads as in the last few days Sad

To be fair, I think that some posters on either side of the debate have not covered themselves in glory in terms of keeping political debate focussed on issues and not on what individual posters may have said.
The gloating has been horrible as have some unpleasant attacks on Tory voters IMO.

Those of us who are 'safe' and relatively unaffected by cuts, should thank our lucky stars and 'check our privilege' as the saying goes and not blame people who are kept going by what benefits there are for all that ails society.
I really hope that MN will return to calmer and more supportive waters again soon Thanks

I have also been hiding threads like mad. I hate what MN has become in the last week. There needs to be some work done on educating people on politics. I'm woefully lacking on interpreting policies and the manifestos are completely inadequate.

I think we need to take every opportunity for a referendum and I've just signed this; I don't know if 'Care2Causes' petitions can get it done but it's a start.

I agree there have been goady posters and I can't understand what they would get out of kicking people who are down. The results are what they are, I don't think the majority of people wanted what's happened. I don't properly understand how it works.

I'm deeply sorry that there are people seriously frightened, stressed and fearful for their future, it shouldn't be that way. :(
