Is it time for a root and branch review of MN content?

At the moment, there are at least three threads here seeking new topics/sections on MN, umpty topics which aren't really being used (MNHQ will doubtless have stats), four (4!) Mumsnet styles for people to adopt, a semi-functional app or two, new apps under development etc etc etc. How many times every week do people post in AIBU for 'traffic' because they're using a niche topic and not receiving any response after some time?

(I can only think that several bottles of gin must come with the job for Tech - if I worked there, I'd be crying in my sleep every night.)

I don't see how it can go on like this for much longer and still remain a fully functioning site because it already doesn't seem as if it's truly fit for purpose. You can't just keep on adding topics and the site surely now has enough momentum to carry on after significant changes.

Isn't it time to seek user views with a view to rationalizing the structure properly?

Just looking at the topics and they could definitely do with paring down or combining. Some weird places as well. Why is pregnancy choices under 'body and soul' and not 'becoming a parent'? Would anyone looking for advice look there? Why is weddings under 'fun and games' and not 'body and soul'? Again, would anyone look there if they wanted to talk about weddings?

Far too many sub-topics. Under education do we really need e.g. homework and extra-curricular activities? And school holidays was a topic somewhere I noticed as well.

If there was a main Lifestyle/interests topic then loads of stuff like homes, pets, sports, travel, arts and crafts etc could all be sub-topics in one place.

I think AIBU should be taken down as a category for a while and see what happens.

Soup
Two examples don't make an epitome....but
You have made a harsh comment about my post
Perhaps I feel hurt...wonder if it was worth the effort...makes me less likely to post again
In fact most people reading this might agree with me...but not enough to find it worth posting..to agree or disagree...
So actually...for the less " robust" posters...who do have points to make...a thanks button is very valid

darkness · 16/04/2015 07:49

It also just occured to me I could also name change several times and reappear as a list of posters who all disagree with you and praise me
That is just so wrong on a site where people need rational support.
Although I'm probably slow in that this has only just occurred to me
And trollbhunting is banned here too !Grin its so stupid

darkness · 16/04/2015 07:52

Trollbhunting is a line of trolls wearing gingham and strung up by their ears....looks very festive at garden parties...

AlpacaLypse · 16/04/2015 07:56

darkness You could do that... but HQ would find out and ban you. They have ways of spotting sock puppets!

AlpacaLypse · 16/04/2015 07:59

Being serious... I do quite like being able to add a short comment as a sort of side bar on some other sites, a direct reply to an earlier post. Failing that, I really don't see what harm a 'like' button would do. It would save some of the gazillions of posts all saying 'I agree with xyz'.
