Could warnings to people be issued by PM rather than email?

magimedi · 23/03/2015 12:12

This is not a TAAT but has been raised on another thread.

WorraLiberty has summed this up well & (with her permission) I am quoting her from another thread:

"I don't use a phone for Mumsnetting, so I would actively have to log into my email to check on the off chance that HQ might have sent me a warning for something.

Rebecca said... We have temporarily suspended her account for personally attacking several times on the same thread in a short space of time when we have sent previous warnings about similar behaviours.

If it was in a short space of time, she might not have seen the emails.

Whereas if her inbox lit up, she probably would have and then heeded the warning.

It's how lots of forum moderators do it."

It seems such a good idea. Not all of us use phones for Mumsnetting.

I want accusatory finger pointing at people.
an actual index finger emoticon

StayingSamVimesGirl · 23/03/2015 17:28

I am sure MNHQ could warn people by PM and email - to cover both bases.

magimedi · 23/03/2015 17:30

Fru - Olivia tens to do her 'ahems' in a more general direction .

I think Zing wan't something like this:

Zing, no, mines an iPhone. The dot appears over the little person icon at the top.

LineRunner · 23/03/2015 17:34

A PM, and an email, and an Ahem on the thread. Plus an advertisement in the classified section of The Times should cover it.

magimedi · 23/03/2015 17:37

Line - don't you reckon a tweet is also necessary?

Yes, the Twit too of course, magi

Bakeoffcake · 23/03/2015 18:39

I like the personal approach myself. So the only proper course of action is for someone from MNHQ to come around to your house.

What could possibly go wrong?

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2015 18:44

I think that's a great idea.

Actually I'd like a home made, personally delivered cake from Justine.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 23/03/2015 18:48

bother me in the house? naggig me to stop? oh dear I think DH works for MNHQShock

Bakeoffcake · 23/03/2015 18:57

Ahh that's a nice cake Worra.

have they already been round?

Bakeoffcake · 23/03/2015 19:00

In fact, is that what the TTNRCCCOP or whatever the heck it is, actually refers to? I think it might be, they come round to your house, have a little chat, have a look at your interweb thingy, then decide whether or not to ban you?

Brilliant idea ... apart from those people who refuse to answer a knock/ring on their door Grin

Love the cake, Worra Cake!

Fair point!

They could always leave the warning with a neighbour?

Oh no, wait.....bad idea! Grin

giraffesNeedBigPoloNecks · 24/03/2015 00:02

agree - I don't use my email I am signed up with

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/03/2015 10:28

Thanks all for the suggestion. We will have a think.

As has been mentioned, if you are banned, then you can't access PMs so we won't ever switch to just PMs. We also have the issue of lots of staff who work flexible hours in the evenings and weekends and could miss replies, or not receive them for days.

We could look at a prompt PM to say you have an email in certain circs? We'll raise it at our next Very Important Meeting.

To those who don't use their registered email addy Shock you are missing out on our wonderful, lovingly constructed emails and newsletters. If you want to update your email address, pop into My account and to change it Thanks

magimedi · 24/03/2015 10:33

[flowers} Rebecca.

I sincerely hope you are considering the Cake idea!

BeccaMumsnet · 24/03/2015 10:34

WorraLiberty - cake is a fab idea, as long as we get all our reports in cake form as well Cake

We would be enormous Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/03/2015 11:35

hi Rebecca

I've tried to update email just now but I can't.
went into "MyAccounts" , put in new email, confirmed password, done.
got an email to confirm password before details are changed BUT it is showing changes for ZingNinjaRoll and there's no option to change that username (also me).
grrrr.

I even went back and tried to change back to ZingNinjaRoll only a message came up to say it's already in use. (yes, I know that it's in use, I've bloody used it aarrrggghhhh. Angry )

so what do I do now? I can't seem to change my email and now I remember that I had the same problem when I tried it over a year ago.

is there any chance you could PM me pls?
thank you

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/03/2015 11:37
