"Tip of the day

If making a starchart, do one for everyone in the family. Let the kids choose at least one thing for parents too. This makes them feel as though they're part of something, rather than having certain behaviours imposed on them and it stopped me swearing! (helsy)"

I particularly liked this one as well

Instead of "hey, you know I have just realised that star charts are crap and arbitrary, let's try something else"

it's "hey, you know I have just realised that star charts are crap and arbitrary, ffs let's not let the kids find out, so we had better all pretend that this is what adults do when they want to change their behaviour as well"

TheDaVinciCod · 19/10/2006 21:30

pmsl - dd made me one the other day !

FrannyandZooey · 19/10/2006 21:39

(sorry helsy btw, it is very rude to diss your tip, I think we are all just jealous really )

FrannyandZooey · 19/10/2006 21:40

I once had a friend who made simultaneous ones, in all seriousness, for her 5 year old ds and her 27 year old boyfriend. It kind of put me off ever using them on another human being.

KellyKrueger1978 · 19/10/2006 21:42

I don't think it is such a bad idea really. I think it is important for children to learn that adults do have to adhere to rules too. Then that should help them understand that they have to follow rules. Though I have no intention of starting mummy and daddy charts!

TheBlairAitchProject · 19/10/2006 21:48

my friends do this so that the whole family eats their 5 a day (it's not really a chart, more a ruthlessly competitive fruit and veg list on a whiteboard) and it works very well. the children love competing with their mum and dad... although as far as i'm aware the parents don't take up the offer of a CBeebies magazine at the end of the week as a reward.

TheDaVinciCod · 19/10/2006 21:49

we compete to see who can get he paper first
dh moved so fast this mornign the boys were in AWE

my lot made me a pasta jar like theirs and said I would get one pasta for being a kind mummy and one taken away if I ate chocolate - hmm not happy.

cazzybabs · 19/10/2006 21:54

My friend has her dh on one for tidying up, putting socks away etc

GhoulsToo · 19/10/2006 21:59

how about a hug for good behaviour and a clip round the ear'ole for bad

(hee-hee am chortling to mesen )

TheBlairAitchProject · 19/10/2006 23:01

perhaps you should nobble DH with too much fruit, keep him busy in the morning while you make your stately way towards The, what, Telegraph? Morning Star?
five-a-day obv not enough, ten-a-day downright healthy, try fifteen.

MamaGhoul · 19/10/2006 23:08

I've put some right bollocks in tip of the day, purely to enter a comp

ediemay · 19/10/2006 23:10

I'm scared of star charts
and Sasco year planners
