Has Mumsnet dumbed down over the past couple of years IYO? Or, if you're new, what's your impression?

Well? Just wondering what people think about this. Even if you're new, what's your view? (I don't want to be accused of oldster cliqueiness, I'm interested to hear what new people think too)

OP posts:

I don't do baby stuff because, although I'm just a few motnth away from producing another one I find it all boring.

I've already been through it all 3 times so don't really want chat about that...I come here to get away from the kids, to moan about them (and DH), to laugh, and be a grown up.
I can't imagine that will change once this one is born either.....This is my sancutary, so it's annoying when I can't find anything to interest me.

drosophila · 14/10/2006 20:48

Explain what you mean by dumbed down.

peanutbutter · 14/10/2006 20:54

lol at Sally's Taste the Difference topic suggestion

Blu · 14/10/2006 20:56

is Limoncello dumbed down?
I really like limoncello

DastardlyDevilishDior · 14/10/2006 20:57

I remember when you could look at the 'last day' threads in an hour. Now it takes ages. I also think it is me who has cnanged. I rarely use the child threads, and rely more on the chat/art & craft/weight loss/relationships/depressed etc threads. i.e. I don't use MN for my ds anymore. It was immensely useful in the first two years though, and got me through many a 'worrying mother' moment.

The way I think of it is that when I joined, I loved the CBeebies threads, and all the gossip about who was on the programmes etc. Now it bores me to tears. Ds has moved on and so have I. Not to say that these threads aren't valid any more. Also, I have seen about 6 'how did you get your name' threads. The first one I read avidly, and then it all became like deja vu. Again, not to say that the threads aren't a good way to get to know posters.

Sophiev73 · 14/10/2006 20:57

Yummy yes, like lemon curd with a kick! Not trashy IMO. But then I like it...

fartmeistergeneral · 14/10/2006 21:04

it does freak me out when I see the size of some of the threads, over 100 and I rarely post.

stoppinattwo · 14/10/2006 21:20

nappieslagore, excellent post,

if mn has dumbed down i will happily be responsible, cos i dont give a s**t

I come on here, speak to people, have a chat, have a laugh, and put a few meanies in their place if i can be bothered

But really what is the point of this thread, sounds like us newcomers must have diluted the level of intelligence on this site.

I may not be the most intelligent person here, but i care, i will always listen, and i dont like people judging, I couldnt give two hoots if my spelling is bad or god forbid i use txt spk!!! If you dont like it get over it, cos i have

foxinsocks · 14/10/2006 21:23

gawd, text speak is a total pain to read though - it probably takes just as long to type it on a keyboard aswell. I mean, if you want something long to be read, surely it's better to just use real words?

lulumama · 14/10/2006 21:27

i notice the OP has lit the blue touch paper and moved far away..........

stoppinattwo · 14/10/2006 21:33

I find txt spk, just like my version of shorthand, im that used to using it, but i realise that not everyone likes it, i just forget sometimes, i dont use it intentionally to annoy, well not all the time

take your point tho fis

aDadOnMumsnet · 14/10/2006 21:39

erm... like, erm... whatever, yeah? What was the question again?

nappiesLaGore · 14/10/2006 21:42

'nappieslagore, excellent post,'

ahhhh, music to my ears

its so nice to be appreciated, is it not?

Prufrock · 14/10/2006 21:43

The OP doesn't post to stir things. though if she misquotes me one more time I will have to have words. I said it was like a big pub, not bloody Mcdonalds.

I'm so with jimjams - I keep wanting to leave but there are some people on here I'd really miss.

intergalacticwalrus · 14/10/2006 21:48

Mn is da bollox. I fink its wkd.

LieselVonTrappDoor · 14/10/2006 21:52

Intergalaticus I agree. But on my first week I got crucified. I have also seen other newcomers similarly crucified. Please go easy on newcomers.

IGW - no, it's GR8!

FrannyandZooey · 14/10/2006 21:56

I haven't been here long enough to know if it has dumbed down but I don't care if it has tbh; I am not particularly bright myself

and on the day when I find it dull and dumb most of the time, I shall stop posting here and do something else instead

rustycreakingdoorbear · 14/10/2006 21:56

DH posts regularly on BBC's have your say - he was looking at one on the Jack Straw/veil thing the other day, so I sent him a link to the MN one - he was amazed at how much more insightful, intelligent & literate it was than the BBC one.

intergalacticwalrus · 14/10/2006 21:57

Ok then, it's GR8!!!!!

L8rz M8.

DastardlyDevilishDior · 14/10/2006 21:59

IGW - Eh?

intergalacticwalrus · 14/10/2006 22:01

I've no idea myself

I sent a text back to somone once asking for them to decipher it. I couldn't understand a bloody word!

expatinscotland · 14/10/2006 22:01

I don't have a mobile.
