Hello all

In case you missed it, here's a link to an interview with Justine in yesterday's Guardian, in which she discusses our recent survey with MORI on women's voting intentions, along with lots of other stuff - have a read and let us know what you think.

OP posts:

I think journalists should be able to spell

skeptical? Hmm

I didn't read the article. Found it annoying.

Itsfab · 05/10/2014 16:12

The whole article, I meant.

Thumbwitch · 05/10/2014 16:46

Sooo - MN is primarily a place for us to "chat, swap recipes and stories about our children" is it?
Nice bit of stereotyping there. Hmm

The article is annoying because whoever wrote it still clearly thinks that we're all "just mums" and she seems surprised that we have thoughts about other matters than "babies and sex".

WipsGlitter · 05/10/2014 16:47

Where can we see the results of the research?

wooooosualsuspect · 05/10/2014 16:54

Not everyone on MN found penis beaker hilarious either.

ZenNudist · 05/10/2014 16:57

The line about swapping chat and recipes was annoying but I think just badly written as they followed it up with some other info about what's on here.

It always annoys me that MN is viewed in the media as being like one brain where everyone has one view on an issue. We're all the same on here doncha know? We agree on absolutely everything....Wink

wooooosualsuspect · 05/10/2014 16:59

No mention of the bunfights then? Grin

PinkSquash · 05/10/2014 17:20

It doesn't really discuss the survey results thoroughly, does it? What does Penis Beaker have to do with women in Politics?

Thumbwitch · 05/10/2014 17:45

Passing mention to the survey, along the lines of "Oh! Women have thoughts about immigration, do they?"

FrontForward · 05/10/2014 18:34

I want to know just how much pest control people have to deal with, that it becomes allocated as a task (to the man of the house).

I gave up about a third of the way through. Really poorly written article!

Thumbwitch · 05/10/2014 18:43

Front - DH has to get rid of the cockroaches - I'll spray them but he has to remove them. We have an electronic tennis racquet thing for zapping the flies - he's better at it than I am, so he gets that job too. And then when the furry invaders arrive, he DEFINITELY has to do that. I do the spiders. Grin
(Am in Australia, btw, so cockroaches are BIG)

bearleftmonkeyright · 05/10/2014 18:55

I don't understand why this article has been written now when it is referencing an article written last year. It is not news worthy or relevant. And there is a good chance the results could be very different now. The article is insufferably written.

CrispyFern · 05/10/2014 18:56

I'm sorry I kind of zoned out for the last paragraph because my child who is meant to be going to sleep as I sit here bit me. I felt somewhat sad. Ow.

Did it hint that Justine is going to start the mumsnet party for feminists to vote for in the next election?

bearleftmonkeyright · 05/10/2014 18:56

Sorry, referencing a report, not article.

Showy · 05/10/2014 18:57

I read it yesterday and sighed a lot.

Anybody got a recipe for apple pie?

KirstyJC · 05/10/2014 19:21

I tried to read it a couple of times but it was pretty dire. So I gave up and looked at recipes instead.

JeanSeberg · 05/10/2014 19:25

This was down the sidebar in the link:

RosieCassMuggins · 05/10/2014 19:38

The best thing about the Catherine Bennett piece is the expression on that baby's face. That is an MNer's baby.

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2014 19:49

Didn't like it. Not for what Justine said, but because despite the ostensible focus of the piece being on the results of the survey and what it says about women and politics today, it was actually a bit of fluff about nothing.

It boiled down to - 'bunch of women worry their pretty heads about politics but it's ok because they really prefer to talk about recipes, babies and penis beakers'.

Drivel.

The report is annual - this year's came out last week - you can see results here www.mumsnet.com/politics/general-election/2015/how-are-women-going-to-vote

JustineMumsnet · 06/10/2014 09:24

@Quivering

Seeing as Mr Justine's maiden name is Guardian, isn't this a bit of a none story?

Dh used to work for the Guardian - been at the Beeb for over a year now.
