wanted/items to give away etc on sn boards?

I know there has been an ongoing debate about the number of sections within the sn boards, with the general consensus seeming to be that less would be better. However I wonder whether there would be a place for a section with items that people have that they would like to pass on, or are trying to source.

Products with the label sn attached often have a huge mark up, and very often the combined elements of trial and error and desperation (!) means that items might have been purchased, only to discover that it doesn't help.

I have stuff that I would love to pass on, I want no money for it, I just would like to see it benefit someone else, but I am not sure it would be ok to start a....'would anyone like a free xxxxx?' thread.

I just wondered if there would be any interest?

Hazey I think that would be a great idea

hazeyjane · 08/08/2014 07:53

Thankyou Autumnsmum, I just thought it would be a nice 'pass it forward' idea.

Also very helpful with smaller stuff, for example I was sent an unused collis curve toothbrush by Polter (which costs £7 to buy) and I was able to see whether ds would tolerate them before forking out a fortune to buy a load (I now have a bloody standing order with them!)

Hi Hazey,

This is a really interesting idea. We'll mull it over and if it looks like there's a fair bit of interest in starting it we'll see what we can do.

hazeyjane · 08/08/2014 19:25

Thankyou Amy!

Hopefully if I keep it bumped a few more people might be along to give their opinion.

Bump

Etihad · 08/08/2014 21:25

That would be a brilliant idea.

Thanks for the bump, Autumnsmum and Etihad.

Yes, Polter I wondered about that. But I thought that if there was no money involved, and people could just pass stuff on then that might stop dodgyness.

I'm keen often buy stuff that turns out is no use to us - would love to pass it on. Plus I might be more keen to give things a go

hazeyjane · 09/08/2014 20:31

Hmm, Polter, I guess that could be an issue

Same here, FirstTimer, also there are things like, for example our car seat, which we got funding for, I wouldn't sell it, but I would love to pass it on to someone who needs it.

I have passed on a pushchair and a weighted blanket in a similar way on here-i saw threads where people were asking for advice about buying those items and offered-they
Offered to pay postage I think. I have tried many things over the years and some have worked for ds1 and others haven't. It would be nice to think somebody else was getting something out of it.
However, don't know how you get around the issue of someone pretending to be in need. When I freecycle I dont mind the thought they could bd going to carboot it as I certainly can't be bothered to and am happy for scrap people to take away my metal-doing me a favour too. This is different though...but I suppose it's stuff I dont need.

Hi everyone, we've had a chat about this and we think that having a thread on the SN board is best. As you've said, there is a consensus that fewer sections are better, so we think this might work as a middle ground?
