(apart from all the ones where there is no debate etc)

Its the title. its the I in it. That makes people attack the author not discuss the issue.
If it were " is it unreasonable..."

there would be more of a focus on the issue?

The genie is out of the bottle, though. And often there's "is he BU?" which goes no better.

No, I really think it's people forgetting the manners they were dragged up with. "Not a fight club" my left foot.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2014 18:53

The problem with AIBU is some of the people that post there, really. Grin

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 18:54

am watching with interest my one about garden screamers
It lurches straight from YABU to personal insults.
interesting strokes chin

Do I need to unhide AIBU and have a look Gretchen?

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 19:01

The problem with aibu is that it's inhabited by people who think that tantruming is a verb. IT'S NOT EVEN A REAL WORD! Angry

SecretNutellaFix · 13/07/2014 19:01

The problem with AIBU is that it exists.

thecatfromjapan · 13/07/2014 19:03

That's interesting. I quite like that.

"Is it unreasonable that ..."

"Would it be unreasonable if I//he/she/we/they/one were to ..."

It'll also be in the subjunctive and a bit hypothetical -- maybe adding a bit more distancing and taking out a bit of the heat?

Actually, I reckon the problem is that people go there to be slightly hyper-emotional: outraged! appalled! shocked!! etc.: all those exclamation-mark emotions.

I was drawn by one that seemed to promise that someone was thinking of decapitating their neighbour or something. I'm kind of appalled that I clicked on it but at the same time, the realisation that I am as AIBU-ish as the next person keeps me grounded.

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 19:06

and people who describe their kids ages in months

thats nuts

I've had a look at your AIBU thread and deduced that you've mellowed in your old age Wink.

I think you're right - make it more objective and people might be a bit more objective. Possibly. On the other hand the thick hystericals need somewhere to post and at least they're corralled in AIBU.

Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2014 19:16

YY I have hidden the hystericals Hassled enough was enough.

I would rename it 'Am I being hysterical/ridiculous?' Grin

GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 19:29

No. It's "is it unreasonable ". IIU. NO MENTION OF THE POSTER

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2014 19:31

Oh right. 'Is it ridiculous' then?

fluffydoge · 13/07/2014 19:32

that drives me mad gretchen DS (252 months)...

OP posts:
GretchenWiener · 13/07/2014 19:33

Start an AIBU about it fluff

OP posts:
settingsitting · 14/07/2014 16:23

Dont think it will make much difference tbh.

KateSMumsnet · 14/07/2014 17:50

But then the acronym would have to change! IIU - it is unreasonable. That sounds like some sort of STI...

GretchenWiener · 14/07/2014 18:42

Most would rather that than the personal abuse you get on even the most mundane AIBU

OP posts:
ginslinger · 14/07/2014 18:45

I think we should only communicate in semaphore - flag up
