Research threads in Special Needs (esp bumping up old threads)

12 replies

There seems to be a few of these every month, where people come on to sn chat and sn children, asking research questions and bumping up multiple zombie threads in order to research their product, promote a survey or get info for their thesis.

I can't find a proper board for them to go to, but I think they need to be redirected.

Primarily the sn boards are about support and advice, not educating and providing information to people, no matter how well meaning. Plus there are threads that have naturally died a death suddenly back in circulation.

Is there a solution, please!?

There is a MN non-member requests board they should be using - and paying MN for the promotional space!

I don't mind it when it's a longstanding member who has given a lot or shared a lot of themselves with the group, but I do find it when someone waltzes in and expects us all to be thoroughly altruistic.

lost for words - I do find it intrusive!

I'm glad this thread was started because I nearly went on one of the zombie threads to give advice

RowanMumsnet · 01/05/2014 15:22

Hello

It sounds like they're spamming, basically - in which case we will zap them if they're reported (and point out that we have a paid-for Non-Member Requests board for this sort of thing). So please do report 'em.

absolutely!! the best indicator is the three that zzz reported were all the same person, as I said on the thread trawlling through for threads (that were respectively 6 and 8 Shock years old) in order to ask for free research (research which was not inline with the original thread is frankly dis-respective. I click on a thread if I think I can help, or support; to click on it, get to end and find its not a parent asking how to cope with others reactions to their child but instead someone asking for anecdotes about the relationship between parents and children and the only linking factor is the disability... Angry to me that's lazy tokenism... Angry

RowanMumsnet · 01/05/2014 22:24

@zzzzz

I've reported three today.

Thanks zzzzz - has it been dealt with now? (I can't see your reports any more so I think it must have been...)

Yep, it sure is. Do feel free to point out to them where they're going wrong, as well as reporting them (although often they're just hitting and running and not reading replies.)

Pretty sure you won't hear from this particular one again...
