Why would an entire thread be deleted for troll hunting?

Can't be faffed to email.

Genuinely curious as to why you'd choose to delete fort hat reason if it was a genuine thread?

Not terribly fair on an op and feeds this ridiculous fear of being seen to be a troll on here, or a troll hunter. Which results in providing a merry little playground for genuine trolls.

TIA Thanks MNHQ

Oh and it's NOT a Fred about a Fred it's a Fred about a deletion message so no turning up with the hump please just because your on the Sunday night shift Wink

I've had enough. It's a two way street.

You ignore reports of trolling than you get troll hunting.

You let idiotic racist hire stay in place for nearly ten hours, yet delete the previous trolly thread for troll hunting.

I think it's time MNHQ dropped the official party line of blaming posters for stuff that goes wrong, and take some responsibility.

Trolls mean clicks, they encouraged them. This non their head and they have ruined their site Sad

Nice one HQ, not posters on the other thread are wondering if you think racism is ok?

Is the other thread still up?????

ghostinthecanvas · 24/02/2014 08:36

Thats.....
I am speechless. Not reading it but wow!

ghostinthecanvas · 24/02/2014 08:47

Had a peek at last pages. Reported the thread. I cannot understand why there are still comments going on, feeding the troll.
Time for an unscheduled MN break for me I think. I am very confused as to why the title alone didn't get the thread pulled.
Not impressed MNHQ.

ExcuseTypos · 24/02/2014 08:53

I'm so pissed to about that rascist one still being there.

Where are the overnight moderators which were promised months ago?

ExcuseTypos · 24/02/2014 08:54

It's gone now thank goodness.

ginslinger · 24/02/2014 08:54

me too ghostie - even if it wasn't a troll thread there's enough in the title to pull it.

ghostinthecanvas · 24/02/2014 09:06

There is something quite addictive about MN. I know it can be 'to the point', nasty too but people on here are generally amazingly kind and insightful. I think if I come back I will stay over in adoption/fostering and chat. Health too. There are a few mners whose help with endo has been invaluable.
The thread last night has made me question HQs values TBH.

LadyBeagleEyes · 24/02/2014 11:22

I've noticed that deletion message more and more on here, where the so called troll hunters get blamed for an obvious troll thread.
And I'm also tired of people keeping troll threads alive by saying they're awaiting the deletion message.
How stupid is that?

Hullygully · 24/02/2014 11:43

I think Catherine's message is interesting, that the troll hunting "inhibits the actual discussion." So that would be the actual discussion about big black cocks at a gang bang then?

Right.

I think MN have solved the staffing prob by using programmed responses instead of people...I can't think of any other explanation.

Morning everyone,

Thanks for all the points you've raised here. We're going to have to eat humble pie here and admit we got things wrong here.

We rarely use "full of troll hunting" as a deletion message reason, and we can see why it might be a bit confusing, although troll hunting is still definitely against our guidelines.

Unfortunately on this occasion, it turned about that the OP in question was a troll, though we didn't know this at the time of the first thread- sometimes it can take a while for it to become apparent, and us to be sure.

We know it must be frustrating for folks who are certain they're onto a troll, but unless we're very confident that someone is a troll, we don't like to ban people. The last thing we'd want is for someone with a genuine problem to be booted off Mumsnet. The best thing you can do if you're unsure about a poster is report and then ignore the thread. If they turn out to be a troll, you're giving them exactly what they crave by posting.

Even when threads seems too ridiculous to be true, things are rarely that clear cut. We've know long time posters going through tremendously difficult circumstances, which on paper could sounds like an obvious troll, but we're confident that they're not.

In regards to the "other thread", we simply didn't see the reports til this morning, when we quickly zapped it. We understand this is hardly ideal, but we'd like to reassure people that it wasn't a case of us leaving a horrible thread to stand.

We're in the final stages of sorting out the volunteer overnight mods, and it shouldn't be too long before they're up and running. Hopefully this will help keep the late night nonsense to a minimum.
