"Add a Message

It is with great regret that we have to ask members to refrain from any further discussion of Gina Ford, her methods or her books on the site. To find out why click here. We'd be very grateful if members could report any mentions of Gina Ford using the "contact Mumsnet" facility (the little red exclamation mark to the right of each posting). Many thanks. MNHQ. "

Never seen it before.

Bumwipes · 07/08/2006 20:51

MP - I'd hug you if it wouldn't hurt you. You are brilliant. Good luck.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/08/2006 20:51

Phew! I have my name back. I couldnt change it for a while, im guessing there has been ALOT of traffic on MN today

Up yours I say.

Anyway, Bumwipes, i have been posting here and there on bmc - glad to see you gals over here supporting and the ladies from bounty. Good on yers!

edam · 07/08/2006 20:56

Aw, love the load from Bounty and BMC who have come over to offer support.

Any techie types know how to identify no-body's ISP? After all, if she can hassle ours, we should be talking to hers, surely?

gothicmama · 07/08/2006 21:02

if anyone is brave enough and has the technology maybe we could use this for teh Click programme on BBC

alexsmilitantmum · 07/08/2006 21:03

fistfullofnappies · 07/08/2006 21:09

NobodyAtAll · 07/08/2006 21:15

Morningpaper- that is superb!

Elf1981 · 07/08/2006 21:21

phew, taken me TWO hours to read this thread from my lunch hour! (Albiet it inbetween feeding DD!)

Still about this.

I emailed Breakfast (BBC) telly, remember them doing something a few weeks back about how the internet can help mothers make friends get help etc etc.

Still can't believe what's going off though.

Told my mum, she said "who the hell is she?" (not up on parenting guru's unless they're my grandma!) so I told her and I obviously cant post the reply.

And I googled blogged earlier and about wet myself laughing over a personal website that had been set up (now a member of mumsnet) and I LMAO re their title version of a certain book.

foundintranslation · 07/08/2006 21:23

Just seen this. Am quite appalled.

I'm not in the UK but wondering whether it might be any use contacting any people or organisations over here about this.

theflumpsmum · 07/08/2006 21:34

oh my god I'm absolutley astounded at this. One thing baffels me about the whole freedom of speech on the internet debate.
How come I or anyone else is able to look at dangerous websites,be it promoting eating disorders, buying drugs that have been banned in this country, instructions on how to make dangerous weapons, pictures of children being abused etc etc but we are not allowed to have an opinion that may upset someone else be it positive or negative.
i am able to freely give my positive or negative opinion in everyday life to whomever I choose...why should the internet be any different. For goodness sake I thought Great Britain had moved out of the Dark Ages.

dolally · 07/08/2006 21:37

Haven't read this whole thread (will do so later!) but just want to say I am totally staggered by this!!!

Just want to send ALL my cyber support to you all at Mumsnet HQ. You do a fantastic job...

sansouci · 07/08/2006 21:47

fahrenheit 451? boycott needed.

DontlookatmeImshy · 07/08/2006 21:49

Still cant't believe this!

I don't post very often but lurk everyday and can honestly say mumsnet has saved my sanity over the last few months.

Lots of cyber support from me to MNHQ too.

cye · 07/08/2006 22:11

i'm so angry!
whoever mentioned a mass bookburning, count me in. also - see 'them' in court. isn't a defence to defamation 'fair comment on a matter of public interest'? ok, some of the stuff said might have been (jokingly) offensive but that's just low abuse (or whatever the legal term is...) not defamation.
personally, i'd also counter that some critisisms are 'true in substance and fact' but i suppose that is a matter of opinion - make for a very interesting trial though!
why should we thousands be silenced by one person just because they've got more money than us?
fume
lets start a fighting fund.

MrsAnthonyKiedis · 07/08/2006 23:05

morningpaper, just read your letter to dh and we POSL. So funny, thanks for that

HarpsichordCarrier · 07/08/2006 23:08

would it be wildly inappropriate of me to express my of MP's quote in that letter.
I sound so bloody po-faced and humourless...

aitch71 · 07/08/2006 23:10

harpsi,
i think we're all a little jealous of MP's quote...

ruty · 07/08/2006 23:29

very angry that MN Towers had their maternity leave curtailed, and have experienced so much stress. MN is the dogs b*llocks. It really has helped me so much as a parent in the most difficult moments. How dare anyone try to close it down. Will contribute to fighting fund if necessary.

flashingnose · 07/08/2006 23:54

Am posting this anywhere that seems relevant:

You can listen again to the snippet about MN on Five Live via the BBC website. It's on "Drive", about 2 hrs 36 mins into the show.
