Mumsnet threads feeding into Youtube, why?

The other day I was searching for something on Youtube, and in RED on top of all the other youtube videos were a list of MN threads, which had the artist name in question in the heading.

I know the internet is getting more and more fluid and mixed up, but I dont understand how youtube can suggest something that isnt videos?

How does this happen?

I have not been able to replicate it, was it a fluke ? Confused

It's search engine obviously picked up the name of the artist in the thread title of Mumsnet threads.

I assume the thread title was something like 'OMG Lady Gaga on XFactor was horrible!!' and YouTube picked up 'Lady Gaga'.

Not really that hard.

Why would youtube refer its users out from their own site, and to mumsnet though, to read threads rather than watch videos?

Isnt that lost traffic/revenue for youtube?

"It's search engine obviously picked up the name of the artist in the thread title"

I get that this is what must have happened, I just dont see the logic in "merging" google search results with youtube results and display them in a mix. Does not that make one of them redundant, and the results more confusing? I like to separate out videos.

It is fine that Google display a variety of websites, news articles, videos and pictures. But if you go to youtube, you want to see a video. I just dont see the logic.

Unless Google is also buying mumsnet and they are behind the scenes exploring how to amalgamate the two?

Don't know. I haven't been able to replicate what you saw, so I can't speak to it.

But that's how it could be done, which is what you asked.

QuintsHollow · 29/10/2013 08:21

or rather amalgamate the three.

my question was clumsy and not really addressing the topic very well, I admit.

Could also be some sort of virus on your computer, or a specific extension on your browser, and nothing to do with YouTube, Google or Mumsnet.

Browser extension, that is a good place to check. Thanks.
