MNHQ maybe it'd be an idea to set out clearly what people can report using the report option. Saw a few people asking for things like the ability to report a poster rather than a post etc.

Maybe just setting out somewhere that people can report a post, but say in the comments stuff about the poster, posters or thread.

Eg.

"Reporting because this poster keeps popping up with similar comments that aren't PA, but appear to be trying to get a reaction"

"Reporting because this thread looks like it's about to descend into one hell of a bun fight"

"Reporting because this a poster appears to be being picked on"

And so on.

It's pretty obvious, when you click on Report, what you can say.

If it's spam, then you can add to the text box that the person/spambot is spamming all over the site.

If it's for another reason - then you can add your reason in the text box and, if necessary, ask MNHQ to have a look at that poster's comments on other threads.

So the opportunity to do that is already here.

PedlarsSpanner · 25/10/2013 15:34

yes, use the text box for explaining your concerns

The only time you need not use the text box is when reporting spam, you check the box (circle, actually) and that's it, job done

IamInvisisble · 25/10/2013 15:40

I agree with FruOla and Pedlar, just use the box. That's what it's there for.

PedlarsSpanner · 25/10/2013 15:42

no point reinventing the wheel, innit, IamInvisible (no you ain't!)

IamInvisisble · 25/10/2013 15:48

No point at all, Pedlar!

NoComet · 25/10/2013 15:50

If it's obviously an add or utterly random crap press Spam
Else press report and give a reason, MNHQ always send you nice replies, even if they let the post stand.

They even send, quite nice replies if you report your own deleted posts and tell them off for being heavy handed Halloween Wink

I always write an explanation if I think the posters a bit iffy.

I assumed that's what the box was for.

Or sometimes I just write wtf?

...those are our favourites ;-)

And yes please - that's what the box is for

I rather like your replies when I report, sometimes they're as entertaining as the Thread Deletion messages that I'm ashamed to admit I've posted on obviously-about-to go-ptooff threads just in order to see Blush. Yes, I know that's increasing their traffic. Blush Blush, but I can't resist Blush Blush Blush

Personally, I try to be amusing.

Something like "May not be a troll but perhaps wearing a t-shirt that says 'I'm a goader, ask me how!'"

Ooh, that's good, I'll have to remember it. Grin

BeyondPissedOffAtTheWorld · 25/10/2013 20:26

Reporting posts is also handy for when you copy and paste your own problem from facebook and forget to edit out your DSs names... Blush

I'd say 99% of my reports say "I think this one is pretty self explanatory"
No imagination, me...
