So does it come up automatically or does someone have to report it?

Oh no! I killed the dead zombie thread link above!

Sorry. I stupidly forgot that it wouldn't be 'zombied' anymore with my stupid reply. Blush

It comes up automatically - with the first and second posts on threads that haven't been posted on for six months or more.

With the third post onwards though (as ewe has just discovered), it disappears.

So if a few do-gooders post "zombie thread" "zombie thread" then it stops showing the warning? ???

SoupDragon has succinctly nailed it:

"It's not a rule that you can't reanimate a dead thread - this just warns you that the question you are answering may well have been dealt with years ago."

MN aren't trying to burden us with rules re old threads. It's simply a warning that you may be posing on a very old thread. Which the poster is free to ignore if s/he wishes to.

I LOVE the zombie thread picture and have just seen it for the first time. Brilliant MNHQ - especially the picture. I feel a badge coming on :)

Why does it disappear after two posts? I think it should be more.

Better a cute character than some smart arse actually bothering to post in order to inform you you have dared to post on a zombie thread. Even if it is your first time and it was a long thread and not obvious and so on...Frankly puts me off the whole thing altogether.

I've just spotted my first one, and it made me Grin

One of the other things that often happens with old threads is that they are resurrected by spammers, so hopefully it will also alert people to that.

I just went to revive an old thread in Adult non-fiction (last post was in the spring) and saw the new alert. Now I'm feeling self-conscious about reviving it so I probably won't. I agree with Relaxed, such a weird rule and one I've never seen before on an internet forum.

Don't feel selfconscious - please feel free to revive - as long as you're not posting e.g. "Buy this book| it will be fine Grin
