Disabilist language?

SnowieBear · 05/08/2013 19:45

MNHQ has just deleted a thread I started on AIBU and acused me of using "Disabilist language".

What's that when it is at home?

The thread was not offensive, it's rather important to me and it's taking me ages to composed on a mobile.

No other explanation, not a friendly message to say "let's change this and save your post".

I feel down enough today to have to have MN give me the cold shoulder....

Thanks, Potter. I was posting here hoping they would re-instate minus whatever great offence I've caused!

The fact is I know I didn't use pejorative language aimed at disabled people. I did, however use a single insult to a group of very, very offensive people. I may not be too PC, but I don't think having seen the language used by posters in general anyone would have batted an eyelid.

Pretty sure now I know which single word of a rather long post did it for me. Obviously cannot repeat it or we would be back to square one!

Never had any intention of causing offence, thanks for your kind advice, Potter, I'll report this thread and see what happens. Hopefully, if (most of) my original post makes it to AIBU and you read it, you'll realise how far from your assumption you were.

Hello there SnowieBear

Sorry you're feeling down - we're REALLY not giving you the cold shoulder.
Apols for the delay in getting back to this thread (was in another window)
We have mailed you and indeed included your OP so that you could replace the disablist word with a non offensive one- did you not receive it?

Pagwatch · 06/08/2013 07:58

It was probably the single word but tbh if you use a single word which will offend a load of people then, well, you probably shouldn't.

Being rude about disabled people is not the same as just using rude words.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/08/2013 08:03

If you are using a word which describes a disability in order to disparage people then of course you are insulting people with the disability even if indirectly

TheRealFellatio · 06/08/2013 08:21

If you said 'I hate spazzes they are stupid' that is clearly disablist language.

If you said I hate the BNP they are a bunch of spazzes' that is still disablist language. Just because someone deserves to be insulted it doesn't mean you can offend disabled people by using their condition as an insult.

Although I suspect you may not have used such an obvious clanger as that. Did you say something you truly believed to be harmless, like 'he's moron', or 'they are mad nutters'?
