Yes, it should. Attempting to bring that back is what's slowing everything else up. cos we is poor we have to index the archive on a live server (usually overnight but now so big it runs into day time). but then that slows everything else down so much while it's working that I chicken out, and cancel it to let the rest of the site function. The new machine will be dedicated to keeping the indexes up to date and so that won't be a problem any more because that onewill just sit there indexing and leave the main web server to serve up pages and not get bogged down trying to do both. As with many tings in life, 's all about resources and competing claims on them. Ooh gone all philosophical. Or something.
