it posts a link to the thread to your facebook wall

ssd · 19/12/2011 20:12

so how does it know your fb account?

And sends a message to all your FB friends' newsfeed that 'X (you) Likes the thread 'I am contemplating having an affair' (for example) [link] ' to all your FB friends.

BobbinRobin · 19/12/2011 21:29

The 'Like' code detects if you are logged into FB on your computer and posts on it.

Indeed.

BobbinRobin · 19/12/2011 21:57

I think even if you are logged out of FB, if you have cookies enabled, the next time you log in, FB will 'remember' that you clicked the MN Like button and act accordingly.

And if the next person who logs onto FB isn't you, FB will act as if they had clicked the MN Like button.

But not if you diligently disable all your cookies.

BluddyMoFo - you have to be VERY careful not to press it, as at the moment it will post directly to your wall and message all your FB friends with just ONE click.

I think the touchscreen thing is a big issue - even easier to broadcast stuff you didn't intend to.

who cares

BobbinRobin · 19/12/2011 22:53

"who cares"

Would you really not care if you unintentionally clicked 'Like' on a thread such as "I think my brother might be gay" or "I think I might be pregnant" or "I think I'd like to experiment with sex toys"?

You do realise that FB would post a link to your wall and send a message to all your FB friends saying that you 'Liked' that thread?

I think there are two types of people on here.

One type live their lives on Facebook, they are happy for friends/family/acquaintences to have a blow-by-blow account of their lives, to share photos and to keep everyone updated every day. They don't care about a Facebook button - why would they, most of their life is there for all to see anyway.

The other type doesn't use Facebook (except possibly for keeping up with a few friends, sharing photographs, in which case they have very high security on Facebook). They don't tell everyone their everyday business. They like being anonymous online.

Some of the latter have very real and valid reasons for being anonymous (DV, SN, difficult family/ex-partners/children/jobs with security risk, etc etc).

Those people really do mind.

Unfortunately the first group don't seem to be able to put themselves in the position of the second group. They say "Who cares?" but what they really mean is "I don't care and I don't give a shit about you" Hmm.

IAmFuckingPissedOff

I think their are three groups of people:

  1. hate Fb and wouldn't ever want to be on it
  2. use Fb and would not want peopke knowing they use mn
  3. use Fb and are on the mn page and thererfore don't care if peopke know they use it
LovesBloominChristmas · 20/12/2011 07:13

*there

elliott · 20/12/2011 07:25

I think the one-click is worrying- surely easy enough to set up a 'hey, did you really mean that?' warning?
I'm in the second of iafpo groups- I hardly used fb but I do have an account - vv easy to be identified IMO as most of my fb friends wld know how many kids I have. And let's face it, if we start having to lie about that to preserve anonymity, there's not much point to mn is there?

elliott · 20/12/2011 07:27

It doesn't seem to be on the mobile version?

LovesBloominChristmas · 20/12/2011 09:00

elliott shh Xmas Wink
