Personal attacks - are we allowed to say when they are dishonest?

I've had a poster repeatedly claiming that I have posted extraordinarily offensive things. I have posted that these posts were dishonest nonsense - my posts were deleted on the grounds of a personal attack.

When my posts were deleted it made it seem as though what the poster was saying might be true, so I then reported some of the posts attacking me. However Mumsnet think that the following, which is absolutely untrue, is NOT a personal attack, but me saying that it is dishonest, is.

"calling my parents (and other poor people) dirty fuckers and saying that they don't know how to clean/feel like they shouldn't have to do it/can't be bothered etc."

I never said anything of the kind, and would hate to think that anyone might think I would. Why are we not permitted to defend ourselves against statements like the above?

I said it was dishonest nonsense because it clearly is. That is not an opinion or a personal attack. Yet it is left to stand, while my posts were deleted.

Xmas Confused

I'd be really grateful for some clarification of the rules.

Don't really understand what has happened, but surely MN HQ read a post before deleting it, so presumably you said something to get your posts deleted?

You perhaps need to ask HQ.

Bucharest I said the posts which were clearly untrue were dishonest nonsense

which MN say is a personal attack

but the above is not,

I've emailed for clarification, so I have asked them

I would really like to know if we are allowed to say

"That is not true"

Or is it the word "dishonest" which makes it a personal attack, even when it was evidently dishonest?

Hi HollyGhost

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
We have received your mail and will have a look into it now and get back to you.

Thank you Rebecca.

I've had a reply from Rebecca now, and it seems that my exact wording, in the context of a stream of abusive and untruthful attacks was:

"'I won't respond further to your nonsense and dishonesty"

I am still surprised that it is considered to be a personal attack, while that poster's dishonestly claiming that I've called somebody's parents and other poor people "dirty fuckers" has been deemed acceptable by MNHQ.

So, if I wanted to, I suppose it would be okay to claim that Rebecca Mumsnet has written all sorts of outrageous and offensive things, right? Because that would definitely not be a personal attack Xmas Grin
