sometimes i don't wish to comment but want to acknowledge that i like a mumsnetter's post or response. i keep going to click the like button, as on facebook but inevitably find that it is not there!!

We had all that though Sue when they introduced the fb buttons and so on.

Big furore.

Does anyone use those? I've never noticed. I can't think why this should be so good for the site

All right, I can negotiate.

YES to like, and hate.

IF you kill the bear, biscuit, cup of tea and glass of wine. You can keep the flowers for the floral fuck offs

Is it toosoon? I don't FB so I don't know. I don't FB because I HATE textspeak and crappy updates and 'likes'. MN was a haven

I refuse to agree with any of you on the grounds that I may be accused of arse-licking, or agreeing, or being in a quiche, or having hair.....

But don't fucking put a Like button puhleeeeeeese

Yeah. Give it ago. Make it harder to spot the difference between here and net mums. Great idea.

I suppose if it was a customisable extra it would be ok.

Then the lolling huns can have their own private parallel mumsnet fluff-world, and the rest of us would be oblivious.

But then there would be row threads about the buttons and we would be out the loop

It would be like we were invaded from within

And there will be a civil war of differing factions, like the Bolsheviks and Mencheviks

End of days.

I knew what you meant Grin

Sue, I don't either. I have a dormant, deactivated account with about 6 friends on it. I loathe FB. Not my friends, just FB.

I know what you mean about the haven.
Hell we had better stop this convo, someone will be on here saying 'you vocal minority, I want a post counter so I can tell you all to feck off once you've had your quota'

Oh the changes, the changes

I've nowhere else to go! apart from uk white goods forum

It'll go to post counter - SueP has been liked 3 times in 14,700 posts Grin

I think the optional option Confused is just as bad: it's a Hun divide.

I would just like to know the point of it all. Is it to make the poster feel happy, that people have liked them? Or make it easier to post without using, y'know, words? Or to make Daily Fail/Matthew Wright researchers happy (1,400 Mnetters think that all men are cocklodgers kind of thing)? ATM, if someone thinks I am funny (I say funny, nobody ever thinks I am clever) they do this

Grin SueP

Explain why that doesn't fill the first two 'needs'?

@toosoontoosoon

que?

why do you want it, Justine? What is the justification? Motive?

You don't want to be more like fb do you?

Well, broadly I think it's harmless and time-saving and thus potentially useful. Even the sceptics will have to agree it's caught on. And I think we here at Mumsnet can sometimes be in danger of being a bit over-sceptical of change. Years of trauma when tabling each and every new thing has convinced me of this Smile. I also think that if it's optable outable then it's worth a try. It's not like anyone is forced to use, or even see it. So it seems a bit miserable to deny those who'd like a trial at least [pleading eyes].

And in any case, sometimes a change is a as good as a rest. For pity's sake I've been at this for 12 years give me something to spice it up a bit.

Oh Justine..... Blush

There may be some scandalous libel about you on the toaster thread....

Report
GetOrfMo1Land · 10/10/2011 21:33

Why does it need to be time saving though? We are on mumsnet, it is not as if we have to be concise.

If there is going to be a like, is there going to be a dislike? I think you can't really have one without the other for maximum bunfighting opportunities

Can you get rid of the bear though, please. And the biscuit. GWAAAAAAN.

toosoontoosoon · 10/10/2011 21:35

Thankyou for replying to me...

can I just ask though, harmless - not necessarily, as pointed out there could be a lot of bad feeling...what if you opt out, yet others can see that nO one has liked your post and a hundred people have liked the one calling you an idiot? Horrible.

Time saving - for whom? Is the point of MN not to discuss, debate, help each other? How does a 'like' vote do that? It'll be post saving too and mumsnet will be smaller.

and useful - again for what? For whom? I just don't understand.

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 21:35

YY. If you're set on the like then all the arguments are nothing without a dislike. Otherwise it's really wonky.

Report
GetOrfMo1Land · 10/10/2011 21:38

Yes. If we have lost the argument to have this button (and it looks that way when you have to pull out the old heartstring puller 'i have been here 12 yeeeeears' Grin) it does need to be like/dislike.
