Can we have a 'three strikes and you're out' policy for troll hunters?

I'm so fed up of seeing threads being derailed by people crying troll. The mumsnet rules on this are clear; don't engage and report the thread if you are suspicious. But this never seems to happen. I'm sure that a lot of times people are right. But a lot of time, the troll-hunters are wrong too. I'd rather see a few people duped on a fake thread than see genuine posters put off asking for help when they most need it because a handful of people are convinced that they aren't telling the truth.

But there doesn't seem to be any real sanction for troll-hunters. How about a three-strikes-and-you're-out kind of thing. Not permanently but maybe account blocked for 24 hours or something. Anyone else agree?

Troll.

stripeybump · 10/09/2011 23:10

On the Feminist section there is loads of troll-hunting - IMO it derails threads far more than any actual trolling. Also there can be a tendency there to call vehemently dissenting posters trolls which is quite annoying to see or be on the receiving end of.

Engage or report, none of Hmm -- this shit.

DaydreamDolly · 10/09/2011 23:13
Hmm
Tyr · 10/09/2011 23:26

I've seen the worst of it on the feminist threads and some on AIBU. There are a few vociferous posters on the former who throw accusations of "troll" at anyone (particularly male) who challenges them. They sound like the cyber equivalent of spoilt children.
Sadly, it seems that MNHQ don't bother to read what they delete, let alone the context in which it is posted and that reflects poorly on them.
This is only an internet forum and the sort of saddo that reports posts needs to get a life.

I think they should just decriminalise trollhunting.

That would be fun

If you intriduce sanctions, the troll hunting would just go under the radar, and people would post in a deliberately ambiguous way.

Which might be entertaining in itself.

I don't care about troll hunting. I do care about being infiltrated by arsewipes, though.

If your dc3 is 10 days late and his due date is the 19th then he will have the very same birthday as moi y'know Reality (yes, I am still here, hanging by a thread) Grin.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 10/09/2011 23:51

I'll have sept 28th.

I will send you a vindaloo and some pineapple on the 27th.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 10/09/2011 23:51

Does the winner get to name the baby?

LeBOF · 10/09/2011 23:52

I'm saying the 16th.

"The mumsnet rules on this are clear; don't engage and report the thread if you are suspicious. But this never seems to happen."

I suggest to you, that the fact that suspicions being reported means they are not known about on the board. Which is why it 'never seems to happen' to you.

For all you know, for every one 'troll-hunter' you see, 100 MNers could have followed procedure and privately reported.

I drop MNHQ a line once in a while...I never post on here that I have done so, because that is the whole point of reporting it off board.

wouldn't cut it on feminist topics they shout troll all the time.if i fancy getting called troll, derailer, asked if im drunk i mosey over there.they love good accusation of troll

seriously, imo troll hunters are worse than trolls.inflated sense of self and attempts to revveal or prove some spurious point.

GetOrfMoiSamsungFridgeFreezer · 10/09/2011 23:56

I got very confused once on a MN thread re how to bring on labour. Someone mentioned that pineapple has some enzyme in it that ripens the cervix, I thought that they meant you had to put the pineapple in you, like a pineapple stick tampon.
