Do you think it might be possible, when a new topic is created

to put up a sticky site stuff post telling people so that people who are not interested in the topic can exclude it before threads of no interest show up in active and people who are interested can know to look for it?

I am thinking, in this instance, of Pre-Teen. I have no interest (yet, he's nearly 2!) and would prefer the option to hide it immediately before it can clutter up my active feed.

I thank you.

good idea tee, I'd completely missed that and I have 2 that age

Tee2072 · 14/05/2011 07:02

There ya go, one from each side of the topic, so to speak!

but for how long should something be a sticky, and I don't know what 'active feed' you mean but once you see a few threads in a topic you decide is of little/ no interest, can you not just deal with it then ?

Seems extraordinary that creating a new topic would need to be handled as a special case - I'd much prefer stickies be reserved for new campaigns, new surveys, or other special news... just my two-penneth on the subject.

Tee2072 · 14/05/2011 08:32

Well, somehow to get the word out then?

Obviously I didn't see it and neither did Ninja so I presume others missed it as well.

Was there an announcement at all?

hmm, new topics aren't created that often though are they? I've obviously missed the threads, haven't noticed them in active convos, it was only because tee posted that I was able to go have a look and post myself. Sticky for a day would be enough for me.

Tee2072 · 14/05/2011 08:51

That's what I was thinking Ninja, like a day.

OK, good points but make it 3 week limit, so someone on holiday (or with family commitments, like sick DC so that day not online) doesn't miss a one day only sticky...

tethersend · 14/05/2011 10:04

How about a 'New Topic' topic?

NorkilyChallenged · 14/05/2011 10:11

But, Tethers, where would you announce the "new topic" topic? You'd need a new topic topic topic.... Wink

Cattleprod · 14/05/2011 10:23

You could put a sticky up for the first few days of each month, called 'New This Month...' and use it to announce new topics, new emoticons, new stuff on mumsnet in general, new campaigns, webchats coming up etc.

I know most of that stuff is probably in the emails we get sent, but I rarely read those and I would read a sticky summarising what is new each month.

Tee2072 · 14/05/2011 10:38

That's a really good idea Cattleprod!

How are you? Not seen you around in a while! Smile

BertieBotts · 14/05/2011 11:03

Cattle that's a good idea :) Or maybe feature a thread from that section in the "Discussions of the day" topic?

I keep forgetting about the separation/divorce topic, Relationships seems to get a lot more traffic. And I completely missed the splitting out of the feminist topics and looked for the book club threads for ages before realising they had been moved to a new section.

NorkilyChallenged · 14/05/2011 11:05

Fine but grumpy (due date tomorrow, v impatient, huge, not fun to live with). Won't be fit to be in S&B again for a while Wink

How are you?

tethersend · 14/05/2011 11:13

I thought you were due around now... Good luck; keep me posted please Smile
