Do you really think that a SAHM is "the little woman sitting at home" or were you misquoted in the Times?

Hi pastadoble - no absolutely not. I was talking about how my mother would describe it - usually when shouting at the Telly (or my Dad). Imagine it in inverted commas.

Strongly believe that any and every choice is valid - each to their own etc. The important thing is that it's a real choice. In my mother's day it was a very difficult choice to work, which is why I was proud of her.

Your mother and my (late) mother are of the same age and IME working mothers were the norm and usually through financial necessity rather than choice.

I think it's really sad that your mum was so ashamed of her own parents that she wouldn't invite boyfriends home.

I hate the SAHM-v-WOHM arguments and think it's a pity that in your quest to publicise this site you and your mum got drawn into it. Still, at least Xenia loves you Smile

Yes you're right it is a pity! I'm amazed it turned into an argument tbh. My mum and I weren't arguing.

I thought the article was really interesting - the fact was, in your mum's day she was the exception rather than the norm and she didn't apologise for that. I keep out of all the working/stay at home rows as I believe we all make the choices that either suit us as a family or are forced to by circumstance - your mum was no different but was simply living in a different era!
