I'm a nosy bint me, whenever I come across the 'Message deleted by Mumsnet' it piques my curiosity in a scab you can't pick sort of way. I want to know WHY it has been deleted. So AIBU to request qualifiers e.g.

Message deleted by Mumsnet - For personal attacks on a poor defenceless poster
Message deleted by Mumsnet - For appalling trollery
Message deleted by Mumsnet - For rather clever trollery, but trollery none the less, slap hand
Message deleted by Mumsnet - For regrettable posting in the heat of the moment
Message deleted by Mumsnet - Due to poster suddenly discovering RL and evacuating MN
Message deleted by Mumsnet - For offending someones sensibilities (but we've all seen worse)

Go on, tell me it's a goer. I can't be the only one this nosy!

Maybe there should be a button, message deleted by mumsnet but clear for the gossip

There should also be an alert that a thread has been pulled and a reason for it.

It isn't like there is usually a thread posted asking why it was pulled ...

Agree with fleshwound. "sorry we that thread can't be found. See here and here for spin off threads, or try X and Y's Facebook pages". Would save all that searching.

I have wondered about that. Do they have a whole store room filled with controversial threads which they deleted, but kept for themselves?

of course. and sometimes they send HelenMumsnet or OliviaMumsnet in there to get something and they find her still in there hours later, sitting on the floor reading the old threads and completely unable to tear herself away.

You're right, bet MNHQ get to read any thread ever in it's unadulterated glory. Seeing the bastardised versions here is the equivalent of a censors black marker. Burn them!

Or ... they could come out with a SECOND Mumsnet, much like Hollyoaks Later or whatever it is, which is only available to special people (like me), where they resurrect all the deleted threads, and restore the edited ones to their former glory, and then let us loose to read them all. I would pay good money 50p to have access to such a site.

DON'T mention special people and MN, and particulary not at this time of year.

You'll have all the oldies falling over in apopoletic fits.

I think they are like Easter Eggs on DVDs - you just have to press the right buttons in the right order and all the deleted messages will miraculously reappear. - If anyone discovers the secret, let me know - I want my rude remark about a certain female sports presenter back.

What is this 'Easter Eggs on DVDs' of which you speak. Sounds like some sort of secret club where I haven't been invited

Ooooh - someone who's even less down with da kids than me They are hidden features on DVDs, which you have to find either by chance (if you accidently click on something) or by trial and error - e.g.clicking right/left instead of up down, or by looking up your DVD on an Easter Egg site - similar to this

So if you have say Pirates of the Caribbean, put 'POTC easter Eggs' into google , and you will find the instructions.

Don't ask me why they exist - I have no idea - seems utterly pointless!
