Hi Puss, thanks for bringing this to our attention - we'll certainly show it to the campaigns team in the morning.

PussinJimmyChoos · 13/09/2010 19:32

Hiya MNHQ - what will the campaigns team do please?

Thanks Smile

We'll get in touch with our contact at M&S today and make sure they are aware of this issue and the strength of feeling on Mumsnet it has generated. Will report back on what they say soonest.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 14/09/2010 07:40

Oh, good, I was hoping the official campaign would pick this up given that it's already been a Discussions of the Day.

jenny60 · 14/09/2010 10:08

Yes, please let us know and let them know that we feel VERY strongly about this. It cannot be logically possible to lease a site to Hooters
and to support the Let Girls be Girls Campaign.

sethstarkaddersmum · 14/09/2010 10:11

thank you Justine Smile

PosieParker · 14/09/2010 10:13

Thanks Mumsnet, I hope this doesn't have adverse implications for the let girls be girls campaign.

MNHQ and campaign team: I am pretty certain that the deal is done.

There will be wriggly words/commercial decision blah blah - where I think we need to push is to ask if they have an ethics policy regarding to whom they sublet and sell surplus property.

If they do have a policy what it is?

If no formal policy then will then develop one.

I am pretty certain for example that they would not sell space for a sex shop or a lapdancing bar.

Their leases are probably written so that these activities could not occur in their premises - the difficulty would be in drafting a lease to exclude something like Hooters.

Another key question would be - can you confirm that you will not be selling/leasing further space to Gallus/Bubo/Hooters.

I started a thread on Babycentre on this issue - thoroughly depressing all round. Lots of "women choose to work there" and "just don't go if you don't like it" and "if I took my baby he'd love it because he loves boobs!". I was also told to 'relax' - perpetuating the idea that any woman who has a problem with this kind of thing is uptight and getting her (big, ugly) knickers in a twist about nothing.

humph.

I have had similar comments on FB.

I was expecting a lot more of that on MN and have been pleasantly surprised by the fact that it's just a tiny tiny minority who think Hooters is ok.
MNers rock.
