which double buggie?

Hi, I'm looking for much needed advice on double or tandem buggies. I have a one year old and I'm expecting number two in January. So I'll need a buggie that can fit both newborn baby and toddler (who'll be one and a half). I live in Rome where the flats are very small and the main doors very narrow( have already given up on trying to fit it through the door lifts, life will be hard hmm). Can anyone give me some precious advise on this future and predictably very expensive purchase? Thanks very much.

well, not really answering your questions, but offering a different point of view, my two are 17 months apart, and I used a single buggy and a sling/frontpack until younger DS was about 7 or 8 months, then got a very light, cheap, umbrella double stroller.

We are in a flat in Japan, with narrow doors, narrow roads, pavements, everything!

Thanks skyeplusbump, I had a look at the baby jogger city select website and the buggies look very cool and confortable, but I fear they may be a bit heavy to lift, as I said Rome is a very child unfriendly city and just getting a bus is a real challenge. But I'll look more into it.

TanteRose my two chldren are going to be 17 months apart like yours, don't you find carrying the baby in the sling hurts your back in the long run? I didn't really use it much with my first DS as I love walking so much and after an hour or so found it a bit of a strain. So I then used the buggie I had (stolen!!!) which gave me more freedom in moving around. But I suppose it's a question of habit and indeed a very good solution to think about (also cheaper and versatile).
