Expecting my first child and hoping to bf but have been advised to buy a steriliser and bottle set now anyway 'just in case' and will need it later when I go back to work/start expressing.

I want to use tommee tippee closer to nature bottles but have heard their electric steriliser is prone to breaking. It pretty much gets blanket bad reviews on t'internet! Have other mumsnetters found it doesnt last?

The Philips Avent one looks a bit better but still gets mixed reviews and also wont fit my tommee tippee bottles as well. how have others found it? Would love some advice from others who have experience of these things!!

In all honesty, I cant remeber too much.. have blocked it all from memory But, we had an avent thing which did the job fine. ds1 was bottle, ds2 was breast. But at some point between the two I do remember giving up on a prpoer steriliser for ds1 and thinknig 'logically what is wrong with boiling bottles? its the same. germs get killed' . Its the same as buying slow cooker instead of just making casserole in the oven

Oh, but as an aside, if you express, def get an electric pump, unless you want rsi from a manual

I have had an avent and a tommee tippee one and neither of them broke down

Thank you both - Ive spent some time on the old thread that talks about no need to sterilise, just use dishwasher... hmmmm might just get a microwave one for when we go away to family etc...

Closer To Nature bottles fit fine in the Avent steriliser. I could get a few in (about 3 or 4 maybe?) as well as a (manual) Avent pump. Mine never broke down (and it was second-hand and seemed to be on day and bloody night due to insane combination feeding routine!) although it did need descaling regularly as we have very hard water - but that's easy with a bit of white vinegar or citric acid. HTH.

Microwave one but we used the dishwasher most of the time.

Fair enough to have some bottles in if you are definitely going back to work before 12 months, but I'd advise against getting formula in or thinking that the bottles are there "just in case" breastfeeding doesn't work out - don't beat yourself up with negative thoughts before you even start! (I know you didn't mention formula - just thought I would say in case you had been advised to - if not ignore me!)

just get a bucket anda bottle of Milton.
