Can you only use apple apps with an iphone or can they be used on any smart phone g: samsung or nokia?

My contract is up and I fancy a smrt phone free on pay monthly and you can't get a free iphone but can get a free smart phone.

The applications depend on the phone's operating system.

Apple applications will only work on the iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad.

There are other phones running other operating systems. I have an old phone (passed down by an iPhone user!) which runs Windows Mobile.

There are lots of different phones running Android, which is one of the leading systems worldwide, despite the popularity of the iPhone over the past 3 years.

In the USA, Apple is still trying to grow its market share while RIM (Blackberry) has been keeping the top spot for corporate users (as it handles e-mail well, with a QWERTY keyboard, I think).

If you have a shortlist of phones, you might do best asking what applications people are using with them, over in the geeky_stuff area of MN (so long as you don't mind some geeky answers!)

I can't answer your question but wanted to key you know that I got a free iPhone with o2 when i renewed my contract with them. I pay £30 per month with free texts and Internet and 300 mins calls. The phone is a repackaged one which I believe means it was returned unused by someone before me. No probs with that cos it was like new and still has warranty etc.

You can only use iPhone apps with iPhone (or iPod etc)
Android apps on android enabled devices
Blackberry apps on blackberries etc

It would depend what you want to use your phone for as to which platform is best for you

I would wait for Apple to fix their software.

Seems Apple might display the wrong signal strength on several iPhone models (3G 3GS 4G)

NB Seems this page at the Independent was 'pulled' on Sunday.

There was another article about the signal strength problem, and the fact Apple is now offering a rubber 'bumper' to go around the 4G phone, but charges 25 quid for this (on top of a not inconsiderable sum for the phone itself).

See article here from the New Zealand Herald.
