Looking for a kitchen for DS's 2nd birthday. Any comments welcome. Looked at lots on line but it's not the same as seeing them IRL. Looked in Toys R Us today at a couple but was sorely disappointed at the cheap bits of c*p they expect you to pay £60 for!!

Whenever we went to toddler groups etc ds headed stright for the toy kitchen area, and loved it. I hesitiated about buyin gone for a couple of reasons (including the fact that he loved toddler groups because he went and "cooked" there), but saw a kitchen on sale at ToysRUs and got one. He loved it and got an awful lot of use from it, though by the time he was 3 fire engines had taken over as the love of his life (we have 4 fire stations of different types as well as too many engines to count!). He would still play woth it when friends were over (various roleplay), and it was also a draw when we had girls over (who weren't as impressed with the range of frie engines on offer). Ds2 who is now 2 loves the kitchen and probably spends up to 2 hours each day playig with it (assuming hat we're at home that long IYSWIM). He also loves his buggy and "Build a Bear" cat.

Looking at the £/hour of play, the kitchen has definitely been one of our best buys.

My ds (2.4) has a toy kitchen and even occasionally deigns to play with it. It is a good toy for when friends come round. We have the John Crane wooden sink and cooker that Twinset linked to, and I am pleased with it because it will last forever (sooo solid) and doesn't sit looking horridly plastic in the corner.

A friend has the Lifestyle cooker you showed and the kids do love it. Several of them can play at once and it has lots of doors to open etc.

And thinking back to when I was a nanny, a kitchen is probably one of the longer lasting toys IMO. They can start to enjoy aged about 2 and play in more elaborate ways up to at least 5, probably 8 or 9 for girls (sadly boys would prob. give up on such a 'girly' toy before then)

we have a kitchen - ds1 played with it upto the age of 3 and a half and now its ds2 kitchen and he cooks while I cook which is very endearing. Hes a real boy, loves cars and garages!!

Excellent. Thank you for your comments.

You have helped us to make up our minds and we have now decided to buy it for him regardless of what anyone else says!!

Thanks.

We got ds the Ikea wooden kitchen which both he and dd love (though it has to be said, dd loves it more!)

Step 2 Lifestyle Dream Kitchen is absolutly fab. Ds and dd love it and it is the most played with toy they have got. Like you I thought all the ones in Toys R Us, ELC etc were really flimsy and a pile of pants. I paid £100 for this kitchen but it is so realistic. They also do a Lifestyle kichen and a Deluxe Lifestyle kitchen. Have a look. I can guarentee you will be impressed and so will your ds. We brought this for ds 3rd b'day but dd was 1 at the time and she has played with it just as much if not more that ds.

Dp's parents bought the Little Tykes kitchen for ds1, who admittedly hasn't played with it that much, but ds2 (16 months) loves it!! He's been playing with it since he could sit up, and still loves it - I think he'll carry on playing with it for a good couple of years more, which is great as I was just about to consign it to the garage..!

Yep definitaly buying the Step 2 Lifestyle Dream Kitchen. Saw it last year when I was looking at kitchens and fell in love with it!

Wonder if I'll be allowed to play with it too!

Actually, it's the Lifestyle Custom kitchen we bought, and it was £100 near as damn it, but it's not the same one you have Woodpops. The Dream kitchen is £130 now which was just a bit too much. I'm sure DS will still love it.

Should we start swapping recipes???
