If you have a 9 year old girl, please tell me which of these would make a good gift?

The Reluctant Dragon

Heidi

Anne of Green Gables

Milly Molly Mandy

Or any other suggestions? It does need to be easy to post. We gave her younger sister a MMM book recently and apparently she loved it, but I wonder if its too young for her really? She is quite bright, reads well, likes both books and audio books.

TIA

I vote for Anne of Green Gables which I loved when I was that age. DD1 is 8 and I can't wait for her to read it.

oh good, I was leaning towards that as I remember first reading it at about 10, but then readoing again and again for years and years. Thanks My eldest is only 6 so I'm not too sure with older kids.

I absolutely loved Anne of the Green Gables when 9/10ish as well.

Yes, AofGG too. My DD is now 10 but really loved this a while back.

My 10 and 8yo girls have enjoyed Anne of GG and Heidi, MMM would be too young though they might reread it still.

I don't know the reluctant dragon.

9 is probably too old for milly molly mandy - although I loved it as a child!

What about Eva Ibbotson - Journey to the River Sea - this was DD's fave book at Primary.

here

DD also loved The Ghost of Grania O'Malley by Michael Morpurgo. She was never a Morpurgo fan, but this particular story is on her list of all time faves.

thanks so much everyone
ratherbeonthepiste - is the journey to river sea very brit centric? the gift is for an Australian child - the amazon review makes me wonder if it would be suitable? Although it sounds great!

When I read JTtheRS I think it was more based on their adventures in South America, it is certainly a very good story, but yes it centres on mostly English characters. Maybe get it from the library, have a flick, then if you like it, send it to her for Christmas!!!

Or try Star of Kazan - another excellent ( EI) story, same degree of twists but I think the child is Austrian

I think english charactors are fine, I was more wondering if it referred to english life/lifestyle etc a lot, but I think its probably fine. thanks again
