Wasn't sure which bit to put this in.

I'm looking to replace my old heavy undergeared mountain bike for a lightweight hybrid. It will do 75% on-road/25% off-road. Ideally it would have easy ability to attach panniers and mudguards as it will be my every day commute to work bike. I need a pretty upright cycle position. Puncture resistant tyres would be a bonus.

Any thoughts or recommendations please?

ta-da!

Massively preferred it to the Treks after taking them out round Kingston (eep). They didnt have any womens ridgebacks but tbh this one felt exactly right.

Aaked them to put a rack and some mud guards on it. We went for lunch while they set it up and we and took it home.

Have been out with dh for 9 mile bike ride. Took me a while to find the right range of gears (cue some rather wobbly moments!) and dh had to move the saddle a bit higher for me but then I could get up hills and do hill starts at traffic lights without any effort at all.

Very happy

congratulations ohyoubadkitten

make sure it is well chained up if you leave it anywhere, I have had recently stolen a front wheel and then the cheeky buggers came back for the whole bike

but hey onwards and upwards, I now have a nearly new mountain bike which gets locked up with 2 D locks and a chain every night, lets see if the buggers can get them off!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2010 17:36

yeah dh and I were talking about locks. I've a good chain but think I need to invest in a decent d lock. They are so heavy though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2010 21:52

OOO lovely bike.

I have a men's Marin - it was rescued from a skip (some folk have no idea) and I love it, it's so light and easy to ride. Great gear ratio. The only downside is the seat - it's been welded in and I can't replace it for a womens saddle. [saddle sore]

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/06/2010 21:53

I have padded shorts and a gel saddle but after 20 miles it gets a bit, well, ouch.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2010 21:55

! at someone throwing a marin into a skip!
Tis astonishing at how much easier a decent gear ratio makes things.
perhaps you need padded shorts?
