Help: I need a Cat Cage for 6 weeks tomorrow!

Our cat has ripped a ligament in her knee and is having an op tomorrow. Not insured and is going to cost around £800 but that's another story.

We have been told to keep her in a cage for 6 weeks but the only ones I can find on the net take 3 to 7 days to deliver. Needs to be big enough to allow her to move around, take feeding bowls and have a litter tray.

Anyone got any ideas where I (or dh as it's his day off Friday) can get one?

Playpen with mesh over the top til it arrives?

Great idea but I don't have a play-pen and can't afford to buy that as well as the cage and the vet's bill!

Why don't you try a rabbit/tortoise run. Our tortoise has a run that is six foot by four foot made from wood and mesh. it is easily tall enough for cat to stand/move comfortably in. Ours came from local pet shop and cost around £50.

That's exactly what I want LilacLotus - shame that it's £20 more expensive than the exact same thing mail order off the net beggers can't be choosers though I guess.

Also, would you be able to hire one from vet or local branch of cats protection league?

The vet had a recommendation for a hire company but they had none available. Not tried Cats Protection League - thanks for the ideas.

They are fab but sadly would arrive too late. Can't risk her jumpoing around and we don't even have anywhere that she would be guaranteed to be safe overnight. Can't leave her in the travel basket!

Got the cat cage from Argos and she went mental in it. We ended up asking the vet to take her back last night which they did.

As for the bill, it was £225 for the 1st vet to do an x-ray and out a splint on and then I picked her up yesterday from the orthopaedic specialist to be presented with a further bill for £802. Add to this, the £99, we had to pay for a large cage today, this little accident has cost over £1100 which we don't have.

Lesson: don't forget to renew your pet insurance.
