Help with Childs Car Seat

My husband has bought a second hand car seat for our grandaughter to use when she comes to visit us.It is in excellent condition and we have checked it thoroughly. As it is not a brand name that I recognize, I have been on the internet to find info about it but can find nothing. The Logo name appears to say 33-Team Evo lution. Does anyone recognise this name or have a similiar model? I will not use it unless it is from a recognised company or supplier.

Has it got any stickers on it say BS or EU compliance type of thing?

LIZS · 13/06/2010 18:56

Sounds like a Jane Indy - is it isofix ?

NanFan · 13/06/2010 18:56

It has a large sticker with user/safety diagrams and instructions for use and a red notice on bottom of this with 09 UNIVERSEL 0-18 KG Y. E2 (in circle) then a number which I presume is the safety compliance code
ECE R44/04 04 04011 Made in France

I am most grateful for your reply.

Sorry to be so ignorant but not sure what isofix means! The last car seat we had was a Britax which we had to have bolted into the car
(30 yrs ago)!!

sounds like a Nania car seat. They make very inexpensive car seats.

CarGirl · 13/06/2010 19:04

What I was wanting to tell you is that all the car seats have to comply to the same safety testing regardless of the brand so provided they have the compliance cod it should be okay.

It's presumably a reversible one - rear facing and then forward facing once they are older.

BertieBotts · 13/06/2010 19:04

Here are the current guidelines as to which standards it should reach:

www.childcarseats.org.uk/standards/index.htm

BertieBotts · 13/06/2010 19:07

It sounds like it has this bit:

"Child restraints (baby seats, child seats, booster seats and booster cushions) sold in the UK must conform to the United Nations ECE Regulation R44.03 or later standard (R44.04)."

So should be okay. Did it come with intructions on how to fit? Does it say for example what weight limit it can be used rear facing? Most convertible carseats can be used rear facing until 13kg (28lbs) but older ones might only be rear facing until 9kg (20lbs)

NanFan · 13/06/2010 19:29

What a lovely helpful lot you are! It is a rear, and then forward, facing model and the label shows this clearly. Also weight for rear position is until 9kg so as you suggest, so it is an older type as you suggest.

Thanks to all who replied to my question. The seat is a Nania Spider Sp Everest. i have found some details so I now know it is a registered make and feel okay about using it.

I find these to be poor quality seats after selling them in our store. We have since stopped selling them and only sell brands which we know score highly in safety tests and we have confidence in. I wouldn't recommend using a second hand carseat as you could not be sure that it has not been in an accident or altered in anyway which could compromise safety.
