Oh, Coddy, we're not rattling on about fridges, we're onto fridge freezers now. Please try to keep up...

princesspeahead · 10/07/2003 19:44

posh people wouldn't dream of using the word posh soupy...!!

I've never watched it either, but have seen photos of "Chardonnay" (love that name! apparently there have been lots of children named it in the last year - lordy lordy)

SoupDragon · 10/07/2003 19:51

We do when talking to those less fortunate than ourselves. We try to speak your language.

Never watched it, my a**e! You know a lot about their kitchen appliances

SoupDragon · 10/07/2003 19:51

Chardonnay Peahead has a certain ring to it...

codswallop · 10/07/2003 20:08

I gove up...slinks off to iron with removable water thing..

Hrh no gags about not ironing.

SmartAr5eDragon · 10/07/2003 20:13

Coddy, you don't iron with a removable water thing, you should use an iron. No wonder you are having trouble...

codswallop · 10/07/2003 20:45

very good...(gnashes teeth)

jasper · 10/07/2003 21:24

Right you lot of frivolous chatters we are NOT finished the serious fridge discuyssion yet
Sofiaames I looked up your fridge on a website - looks about the size of a spare bedroom; I am well impressed.Really snazzy design too. Is it expensive to run?
Sorry to be such a dunce but would the water pipe have to go under the floor(don't think that's possible in my house) or could you maybe feed it up through the wall, across loftspace and then back down through the wallspace into the back of the fridge?

Anyone know more about what Costco have? I'm off to look for a website.

Costco happen to have the zigzag, or at least they did a few months ago. They have the best price on it too, but I don't think they deliver. I have no idea how much it costs to run, but I'm happy to pay, whatever it costs. I'm sure I make up for it by not ironing any of my clothes . As Enid said, the american fridges aren't terribly energy efficient, though they are getting better and some are quite good.
Jasper, no it doesn't have to go under the floor. You probably could send it up into the loft and back down if it wasn't too far. Is fridge on opposite wall from sink?

jasper · 11/07/2003 08:38

Yes Sofia, it is quite a distance - about 6 or 7 yards away with a door in between

Efficiencywise, one I looked at this week was a B rating which is pretty good. A GEC I think.

SofiaAmes · 11/07/2003 23:09

I can think of no reason why you can't run a tube that sort of distance, but just double check with the manufacturers of the fridge before you buy one.
My zigzag has an A rating, but it's a bit misleading. It just means that it's efficient for its size. It still uses lots more energy than a smaller fridge. Then again, it also holds more, so I go shopping less and therefore use up less petrol...

jasper · 11/07/2003 23:37

Sofiaames, thanks for the info.
I have discovered John Lewis stock Maytag so will take look, although may buy online.
Smeone here said the JL staff know what they are talking about, unlike in Curry's where they are on the surface helpful but have NO clue about the products IME.
I see from various websites that Maytag also make Admiral. The Maytag M2360W and the Admiral 21ADW look almost identical but the maytag is £1400 and the admiral £800. Anyone know if they have different motors or something?

Jasper, don't know if you are still looking but Comet are doing a deal where you get a discount off an 'A' rated fridge (apparently from British Gas), anything between £50 and £200.

My DH couldn't resist the Samsung today (please don't all tell me that they are rubbish and it will breakdown!!!), £200 off (which still makes it cheaper than I can find the same model anywhere on the net), 9 months interest free, it does filtered water and ice cubes. I JUST DON'T WANT TO GET THE KNOW THE SAMSUNG REPAIR MAN AS WELL AS THE HOOVER ONE!

spacemonkey · 19/07/2003 23:51

demented, i bought the samsung one in march and it's fantastic, no complaints at all, and the ice maker and water dispenser are in constant use

Demented · 20/07/2003 12:08

Phew Spacemonkey, that's what I wanted to hear!

Demented · 20/07/2003 16:35

Doh, if I had looked further down I would have seen that you and someone else have been singing the praises of the Samsung already!

spacemonkey · 20/07/2003 20:04
Grin
jasper · 20/07/2003 23:17

Thankd demented, yes I am still looking and wasn't aware of that offer.
Fridge hunting has been temporarily suspended due to a flood in our house last Thursday which has trashed both bathrooms.
Should really be but you've got to laugh.
