Scooters - are they just all the same?

DC had those cheap scooters for £10, nebulus or something like that. Both have now fallen apart (though had them a while so I'm not saying they were rubbish) and I'm looking for new ones. Everyone at school has the micro-scooters but they are very expensive and I'm not one for following the crowd. So I'm looking at just normal 2-wheeled scooters. And there are loads for all different sorts of prices. So what do I get?? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Ok. Micro scooter fan here. DS (nearly 5) has used his basic one to death for two years. The design is amazing. They lean to steer and are really sturdy. I know others who've broken them from time to time, but they got good spare parts, quickly and many things easily fixed. The next level up ones now, the new generation look fab imo.

But it might just be me!

I have bought 2 scooters recently as I baulked at the price of the Mini-Micro scooters, both scooters my DD2 found them hard to use,so have sold them on E Bay and bought a Mini-Micro one and she's great on it!

They also don't lose value unlike any other scooter, even secondhand its hard to find them at less than £45. So although expensive you will get your money back.

Not sure about the micro scooters, although a lot of the DC's friends have them. We stupidly bought some branded junk (Barbie/Hello Kitty/Superman..) andrhey were just rubbish. We will have to buy nee ones this year as they are falling to bits.

I quite fancy the BIG scooter from Hudora. Several of the bigger DC have them in our school and they are really good. They have bigger wheels so are mire comfy and less unstable.

Thanks. I'm kind of resigned to getting them the Micro Sprite scooters. If they're as good as people say they are, they should last them until they are older (size-wise and attention-wise at least) so may work out good value in the long run.

ds has the micro sprite and it seems great (though only had for 2 months).

we were looking to replace a 2 year old and wrecked nebulous one and have mini micro for dd which is fantastic.

Mini micros are fab. Definitely worth the money. I sold dd's 3 year old one for £15.

Dd now has a micro lite. It is crap.

The front wheel always twists around which makews it almost impossile to ride any distance without it needing straightening. A friend's dd also had the same problem within 6 months of buying it.

In fact, ds' £10 nebulus from the old Woolies is still going strong and it is about 3 years older!

Should have gone for the bigger maxi micro, which seem to much better made.

fillybuster · 16/06/2010 13:56

I've just given in and bought both dcs the micro-scooters (one of the bigger ones for ds and a small one for dd) after years of digging in my heels and refusing....they're going to be 'presents from the baby' if it ever turns up!

DS has had an ELC foldable scooter for 2 years and has never really got the hang of it (his balance is shite, rather like his mums ) so although its in good condition thats more because it hasn't been used enough than because it was really sturdy.

Despite the price, I rather suspect these will turn out to be A Good Investment. At least, I hope they do...

DaftApeth · 16/06/2010 17:17

I'm sure you won't regret it

Good luck with the new addition

hannahsaunt · 16/06/2010 20:03

We have razors - 2 folding ones and one three wheeled one - used heaps and still in great condition; very sturdy but very whizzy. Don't know if you can still buy them though.

chicaguapa · 30/06/2010 18:58

DS has said he would like to do stunts on his scooter! He's only 5! Anyway, this discounts the Micro Sprite, though it will be ok for DD. Any recommendations/ suggestions for a stunt scooter please?
