Which trike? Berchet Baby Driver 3 or Little Tikes Low Rider

Has anyone any experience of these trikes? Mumsnet gives Berchet as its top, nobody seems to know anything about the low rider.
Would rather invest money in something that will grow with them-is this wise?

We have got the berchet one, as recommended by lots of people on here. It's really good, very sturdy and easy to adjust. Best thing for us is the fact you can disable the pedals (to stop them whizzing round and smacking his little ankles!) and you can also disable the steering when using it with the handle. We use it all the time and he loves it.

Forgot to say have never heard of the other one, do you have a link for it?

Coj · 04/08/2005 20:33

Saw it today in Toys r' us. It's not online though. Can't find any info about it on Net, must be new. Seems really wide and plasticey in comparison.
With the Baby Driver is the handle and seat height adjustable? How long do you think you will use it for? Like the pedals thing.

The handle can be adjusted really easily, it's on one of those spring metal button things. Think the actual frame and handlebars are the bits that adjust. He is a big 18 month old (prob at least the size of a 2 year old) and its still on the smallest settings by a long way, so will be good for when he's old enough to learn to pedal. Definitely imagine it to last a long while so worth the money IMO.

I fell in love with the lowrider when I saw it in Costco, does anyone know where else I can get it for and the best price?

TheBlonde · 09/04/2006 10:19

John Lewis have both

That Little Tikes one has plastic wheels. The Baby Driver has rubber wheels. Plastic wheels are very noisy on the pavement. Annoying if you think you might be pushing it a lot but doesn't matter if it will mostly get pedalled around the garden.

Our one is an old-style mothercare one but like the Berchet one I think. It comes apart - the adjustable frame between seat and handlebars can come completely apart. Useful for packing for holidays & long weekends at Grandmas.

We thought it would be nice to get one that grew with dd, but what happened was that she got bigger and wanted a bike. The trike lasted from 2 to 3.5. And she never learned to pedal it. She learned to pedal the bike in about 5 minutes - I think because the pedals are below them and not in front, IYSWIM.

Carameli · 10/04/2006 09:29

we've got the berchet and its been used so much. DD now 2.5yrs loves going on it. As someone else said its great having the option of them pedaling along or disabling the pedals and they can just be pushed.

am bumping this... the berchet one www.johnlewis.com/Toys/Toys+by+Type/Baby+and+Pre-scho ol+Toys/Ride+Ons+and+Walkers+/213/230204019/Product.aspx is 50 quid from john lewis and the little tikes one www.shop-com.co.uk/op/~Little_Tikes_Steering_Pro_Ride r_Trike-prod-42732631 is 30 from some dodgy internet site. is the berchet one really 20 notes better? and i bet that second link won't work.

Aitch · 11/06/2007 00:57

LOL, Neither of them did!

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:35

can you take the pedals off the low rider?

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:38

what age child is it for?

this is a lovely trike but not really suitable for babies/toddlers.

Aitch · 11/06/2007 01:38

it doesn't look like you can, actually. is that a good thing?
am to note that both links actually do appear to work. since tech's made the linking easier they've got very ugly, don't you think?

Aitch · 11/06/2007 01:40

that one looks lovely but very expensive. it's for dd, she's 18 months. we're increasingly ditching the buggy but she's been pushing her doll's buggy to the park. fine, until she's too knackered at the park to get home, so i end off having to carry everything.

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:42

i've heard the best ones are by kettler and puky though.

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:43

these?

Aitch · 11/06/2007 01:43

are you making up names, nappyaddict? puky?

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:46

no!

look on the link

Aitch · 11/06/2007 01:46

i see, puky is real. they seem to have plastic wheels, someone said that rubber is better further down the thread. do you know why the puky ones are supposed to be good? (certainly the bucket at the back looks useful.)

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:50

oh the person who told me said their puky had pneumatic wheels Confused

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:51

i think the order for wheels goes pneumatic, rubber, plastic but then it all depends on what your budget is and if your dd is really going to care what the wheels are made out of.

Aitch · 11/06/2007 01:55

i'd want to use it A Lot on pavement as we don't have a garden so it would really be transport so i'd rather not have my hand buzzed to bits by plastic wheels if i'm pushing.

nappyaddict · 11/06/2007 01:56

from that link "The most comprehensive range of childrens' pedal tricycles available in the UK with both rubber wheels and pneumatic wheels"

no mention of plastic!you're going mad aitch!

Aitch · 11/06/2007 02:03

aah, cool. they looked plasticky to me. thanks. and why aren't you in bed? [stern]
