We are getting a new car around Christmas and doing some market research just now. Will definitely be a 7-seater and we are thinking about the Kia Sedona.

Anyone have anything (good or bad!) to say about them?

nannyjo · 01/08/2005 21:33

doh! i read your second post.

Yes we love it it is lovely to drive and a good price for a MPV. the seat arrangement is great and it fits loads in.

you can move all the seats forwad
rds and bacwards to fit in your particular needs, we got it to fit in dog, baby and pushchair and we still don't use the back seats yet but will if we have another baby.

Quick question so I thought I'd stick it on this thread! We've finally decided that all the crap we take camping with us isn't going to fit into the Mondeo (we don't have martianbishop's dh to pack it for us!) so are seriously thinking of a Sedona....

Does the back row of 3 seats come out of the car completely? so we can leave them at home?

Is nannyjo still pleased with hers?

any other info would be great!

Lucycat · 05/01/2006 13:57

bump - not the car sort

Aero · 05/01/2006 14:05

We seriously considered this car last year, but decided against for a couple of reasons and one of them was that although the seats move, they cannot be removed from the car altogether, so we got a Zafira in the end. The other reason was that it just seemed too wide for us - possibly impractal for parking in some areas etc and our road is pretty narrow for parking as it is. Otherwise though, it looks like a good enough car and value for money.

Lucycat · 05/01/2006 14:11

Thanks for that Aero! I had a horrible feeling that the seats wouldn't come out .....bugger, back to the drawing board, we looked at a Zafira but our Mondeo is so big anyway that there isn't that much difference!

allyco · 05/01/2006 14:20

ooh aero my DH has just decided on a Zafira after thinking of a Sedona for ages.

Are they really good then??

Aero · 05/01/2006 14:26

Well, we've been delighted with ours. Great for when the dc have friends to tea - 5, 6 or 7 seats and very easy to work. Also like that I can have one extra seat and still have a reasonable sized boot - big enough for a flat fold buggy and my shopping etc. Middle row also moves forward for extra boot space if necessary which is great for holidays (so long as we don't crush the kids legs . Also, can go right forward when only front is being used so you can fit in loads to take to the dump as we recently found out after clearing the shed!!
Only drawback is that if all seven seats are in use then the boot space is very limited, but don't think this will really apply to us much as no further children are planned!!

allyco · 05/01/2006 15:02

Right - will tell him.

I'm waiting to test drive a Mazda 5 which is similar (I think - am hopeless with cars!)

Janh · 05/01/2006 15:08

Here you go, allyco - Parker's reviews of people carriers .

It doesn't differentiate between the vast (eg Grand Espace), large (eg Espace) medium (eg Zafira) and small (eg Berlingo) but have a good rummage

I have a Zafira too and it is fab - would love to buy the latest model, which looks much better and has lots of good internal tweaks, but can't afford (or justify, come to that!). Recommend the TDi engine, used to be a 2.0 but is now a 1.9.

Janh · 05/01/2006 15:11

(There are some great pics of the Mazda 5, including one of a bodyshell with all the airbags inflated, and one with no roof to show all the seats!)

Lucycat · 05/01/2006 16:14

Thanks for that Parker's review page JanH - ok so the Sedona is back on as a possibility, only the earlier models had fixed seats, the newer ones are removable!

Just need to knock down the gateposts to get it on the drive now........

allyco · 05/01/2006 16:32

Thanks Janh - been looking through Parker's now instead of working .

The Mazda looks good according to them so I think it's deffo the one I will get. The Zafira looks great (esp. that panoramic sunroof!)so DH should be pleased.

I must get a bigger car. I am nearly killing myself laoding and unloading DD into the back seat of the one I've got and as I am pg too it can't be good for me to stick to a two-door model can it

Oh and although this is totally irrelevant we are not having ANY MORE kids otherwise will need a minibus!
thanks again

Janh · 05/01/2006 16:45

The Parker's list excludes the Corolla Verso for some reason - another goodie.

jmb1964 · 07/01/2006 00:25

We now have a Citroen C8 which has been great so far. Looked at the Sedona, but the seat arrangement seemed all wrong for us. the middle row had only 2 seats, then there were three in the back row, and the seat split down the middle ie in the middle of one of the seats. We have 4 children and wanted to be able to fold down or remove the seventh seat to make room for luggage when going on holiday, and this wouldn't have been possible without sitting one child on half a seat.
The spec was good - I was very keen on the dvd player, but have found it is possible to live without one.
Got an excellent deal on the citroen here

Janh · 07/01/2006 00:37

The basic Toyota Previa used to have 3 in the middle (40:60) plus a 3-seater bench in the back which split 50:50, so you could fold half away, still seat 6, and have a huge luggage area.

Have just googled and they still do an 8-seater - much dearer than a Kia Sedona but comes highly recommended. Not sure if it still has the split-fold rear bench though - might be removable seats. But Toyotas are tops...

jmb1964 · 07/01/2006 22:05

I couldn't even bring myself to look at them - kept thinking of placenta previa!

Janh · 07/01/2006 23:03

CD used to have one and referred to hers as that
